Hi alisonf,
It sounds like you may have had a spring either come loose or break. You can take the kick plate off the bottom usually with a 1/4 socket or nutdriver and maybe a phillips. Take the screw out of each side and you will see on the far left and right a spring that attaches to the door hinge. One of them will be broken or off. Simply look at the one that is still in place and attach the other back the same way. If broken you can usually buy springs for dishwashers for around $8.00. Good luck and I really hope this helps. Mike

When your dishwasher door has a problem, check these: Latch Springs Hinges Door seal Latch The latch on many dishwashers is adjustable. If your door is easy to close but difficult to latch, adjust the latch to let the door close more easily. If you can't see any way to adjust the latch, yours may be fixed in a certain position. Check for other reasons for the latching problem. If the latch has worn out in a way that makes it impossible for you to close the door properly, you probably need to replace the latch. Springs Your dishwasher has two springs that counterbalance the weight of the door. If either or both of these are broken, the door feels quite heavy and you need to replace both springs. Hinges The hinges are important to the door closing properly. If they're bent or deformed, you probably need to replace them. Once bent, only rarely can they be straightened well enough. Door seal If your dishwasher is new--or if you have just replaced a door seal--the door may be difficult to latch for a week or two. If the tightness persists, though, try adjusting the latch, if it's adjustable. If it's not adjustable, there's probably nothing you can do immediately. But try running the dishwasher on the highest heat cycle to help the seal conform to the door. Otherwise, the seal should compress over time.

Door weight or spring no longer works

yes tere are springs and a small pulley system located on both sides on the bottom you can order the parts and have the sent to you directly by looking up marcone appliance when u order the parts order both springs and also order the pulleys as a kit whcih also comes with the corded returns new also if you dont order them as a kit r ask for the kit you end paying more for just the pulleys alone and you might find one of those returns are broken good idea to have allthe parts replaced the first time when you do the job shut off the power diesconnect the screws that hold your dishwasher in place and pull the entire unit outward make sure u have shut off the water supply and that your hose to the water inlet vavle is long enough to be pulled outward. when you pull the unit out you willbe able to see both bottom sides and will most likely find a broken pulley or return hope this helps

The door is very heavy when you open it. When you go to open the door it just drops straight down

Sounds like the retaining bracket has come loose on the side its is attached on the inside this is separate to the hinges at the bottom that hold the door on, does the bracket feel loose?

If so you may need a service its is difficult to get in to reattach unless you have done it before dont without at least one other person to help

The door on the dishwasher squeaks terribly. How can this be corrected?

If your dishwasher door squeaks you have to check the following:

Latch
The latch on many dishwashers is adjustable.

Springs
Your dishwasher has two springs that counterbalance the weight of the door. If either or both of these are broken, the door feels quite heavy and you need to replace both springs.

Hinges
The hinges are important to the door closing properly. If they're bent or deformed, you probably need to replace them. Once bent, only rarely can they be straightened well enough.

Door seal
If your dishwasher is new or if you have just replaced a door seal the door may be difficult to latch for a week or two. If the tightness persists, though, try adjusting the latch, if it's adjustable. If it's not adjustable, there's probably nothing you can do immediately. But try running the dishwasher on the highest heat cycle to help the seal conform to the door. Otherwise, the seal should compress over time.

Difficult to pull door open and loud click coming from left hinge

I would check for obstruction in the path of the door spring areas. If appropriate, remove the bottom access panel (typically 2 screws); open/close the door in attempt to observe the inside bottom left and right for the clicking sound.

If not already done so, also ensure your dish-washer is raised of the floor a little bit; leveled and properly secured to counter top with 2 screws.

Door wont shut properly and washer will not start

Is this a problem that just happened at once or gradually got worse?
Does the D/W seem to be installed tightly to counter??If it is firmly mounted than you need to take loose the screws that are holding it in place to your counter.Usually there are just 2 of them.Only remove these if the door seems to be hitting something just before it is shut.By opening & closing slowely I need to know if the door seems like it bumps the inside right before its locked.By removing the 2 screws that hold this snug it will allow the squarness of the cabinet to become free & the door will align itself.Alot of installers over tighten the legs & lift the dishwasher into the counter so high that it forces the door to miss the Latch.I'll help you through this ,so let me know ,Thank You!
