What do I do when my acer r-1600 will not respond to the " F12 " button instructions?

what function does the F12 button do? maybe the program you are using doesnt make use of this function key, in which case nothing will happen. do other function keys work OK? maybe you need to push a Fn button as well to activate the F12 key. have you tried a different keyboard?

How do I get into safe mode on an acer AX1920

Most likely you are either missing the "magic moment" when F8 must be depressed to bring up the Safe Mode menu or the keyboard is not active when the "magic moment" arrives. The latter is most common with USB keyboards on machines that have the potential to use either USB or PS/2 keyboards. To get around this possibility, I suggest temporarily plugging in a PS/2 keyboard. If the problem is just timing, then I have found that starting to press F8 two or three times a second while the basic BIOS checks are ongoing is helpful. As soon as you see the screen clear after passing POST, press and hold the F8 key down. If you have a PC speaker integrated into the motherboard or one attached optionally, you may hear continuous beeping after doing this for a bit. It is okay to let go of the F8 key at that point as the beeping means that the keyboard buffer has been flooded with keypresses and once it clears, chances are you will see the Safe Mode menu pop up.

If neither of these work, something you can probably do to help force the issue is to let the regular Windows boot routine run only long enough to see the Windows splash screen appear, then either force the computer to shut off by holding down the power button for several seconds or just pull the power cord. The next time you start it, it should tell you that the machine did not start up normally last time and ask you what you want to do.

I hope all this helps.

How do I get into safemode on my acer aspire desktop

1 Restart the Acer Aspire netbook by pressing the "power" button on the netbook's keyboard or by pressing the "CTRL," "ALT" and "DEL" keys at the same time. 2 During startup, hold down the "F8" function key immediately when you see the "Acer" splash screen and the option for entering "Setup." 3 Keep pressing the "F8" key until the "Advanced Boot Options" menu appears. If you receive a "keyboard error," restart the Acer Aspire and repeat step 2. 4 Use the arrow keys to navigate to the "Safe Mode" selection on the "Advanced Boot Options" menu. The arrow keys are located on the right-hand side of the Acer Aspire keyboard. 5 Press the "Enter" key to execute the "Safe Mode" selection. The Windows operating system will now start in "Safe Mode" and you can perform a system restore or make needed changes to get your Acer Aspire to boot normally again. Just purchased an Acer Veriton M464 recently. The keyboard musnt be confifigured properly as some of the buttons are mixed up and the right hand side number keys dont work! What can i do?

I'd say unplug the keyboard, boot the computer without the keyboard, then use the windows key to shut it down, then plug it in and turn it back on, if it continues to do the same thing you can look for a secondary program running that handles the keyboard and see if it has a configuration option. If none of these things seem helpful, look in the bios, see if there is something funky in there that handles keyboard functions. If all else fails, purchase a cheezy keyboard from best buy and try that, if it works properly then u know it's the keyboard, if it doesn't, return the entire system as it could be a malfunction with the "bios" basic input output system that is not translating information properly.

Just a fyi, I'd return it anyway and get a dell.

Info on the acer keyboard. How to use alt and ctrl keys as the popups say.It doesn"t seem to do anything. thank you

Your question is a bit unclear, but..
ctl and alt keys are used together with other keys.
You must press and hold them first, the press another key, then let go of both. In windows, pressing alt should at least activate the menu bar.
Sometimes you may not see the result, even if it works. (For example, ctl-c copies highlighted text, but you won't see the result unless you paste it in an application with ctl-v)
Also, the key combination must have a defined function in the active application.
