What is machine error 71 How to fix it?

Error 71 on a MFC-9600 means there is a problem with the motor inside the printer.
You can try unplugging and waiting a few minutes, then plugging back in again.
If it is still coming up with the error, if its still under warranty Brother will replace/repair it for you, otherwise you will have to pay Brother for the repair cost.

SCREEN READS ERROR 71 CALL BROTHER, WHAT IS THE PROBLEM, WHAT NUMBER DO I CALL

This error means that there is a scanner motor error. Try and remove the error by following these steps: Press MENU *,2,8,6,4. The machine beeps for approximately 1 second and will display "MAINTENANCE" on the screen, indicating that it is placed in the initial stage of the maintenance mode, a mode in which the machine is ready to accept entry from the keys. Now you are inside the simulation, Press 01 to reset the error status. After that press 99 to exit the simulation.

- Pressing the 9 key twice in the initial stage of the maintenance mode makes the machine
exit from the maintenance mode, restoring it to the standby state.
- Pressing the Stop button after entering only one digit restores the machine to the initial
stage of the maintenance mode.

If the error comes back, call Brother support, here are contact details:

Brother MFC 9880 error 71

error 71 indicates problem with the laser unit motor.. 80% is the motor problem and 20% could be the LVPS board... make sure all the cover and interlock switch are close properly.. as any interlock switch which are not close properly will effect the voltage to the motor..

Brother MFC 8220 Error code 71

that code indicates that your laser unit has gone bad. no way to reset or repair without a tech replacing the laser unit itself.

Machine erro 71 new scanner moter still giving me erro 71???

sometimes people use different names for these two items, but "scanner" to me as a tech, is the assembly with the light under the glass. the error 71 points to your "laser" unit which is pretty deep inside your machine and most likely, only a tech would be able to replace it. once replaced, the code will automatically reset.
