Question about Dell Latitude D410 Notebook

2 Answers

Hello, My D410 has suddenly dropped in speed since turning it on this morning. I know its not a virus and have cleaned the Hard Drive and Defragmented it but it is sudenly very quiet (the fan is not activating) and only working at about 1/4 of it's RAM potential. Do you have any ideas? I'm worried its a Hardware problem but its hard to identify.

    Hello,

I have a Dell D410 Laptop. This morning I noticed a dramatic loss in processing power. It appears to be my RAM as I have checked by pressing CTRL ALT DEL and checking the stats. The RAM stats just dont add up. I have not to my knowledge downloaded anything or upldated anything. Also I'm fairly sure there are no virus's on my machine.

I have Defragged the HD, I have run virus checks and cleaned it up and yet it is still very slow (about 1/4 full speed).

I am worried about the fan which has stopped (can this be restarted)but also concerned it might be a problem with the HD (I have scanned this for probelms). I'd like any suggestions that will help me to fix this myself.

Any suggestions grateflly received. Many thanks

Hi. System Fan should automatically kick in after few minutes of using the laptop. Especially if laptop is reaching to the temperature that it needs to cool down. Thats is when the FAN should kick in. If fan is not working at all then this could be a fan problem. You need to have the fan replaced in order to prevent further more damage.

I am afraid that your system is not infected with any virus or spyware or malware. It's hard to say that your system or my system is free from those malicious contents. Suppose if you are using Norton and you scan it without any findings of virus or etc..etc.. but if you scan it using another antivirus, you get tonnes of worms, spyware, etc.. I don't know why, but this is true. The fact is that all antiviruses databases are not similar and not updated at the same time.

If you think your pc speed is slow, first check the applications, if you downloaded some softwares last night or if you installed some applications last night, the software or the application could also be the cause of the problem. Did you run any updates? That's another question, some updates are "bugs" for some systems since all systems have different applications installed. Or did you visit unknown websites last night? Some unsecured or phishing sites contains virus or malware and once you open the site, it'll automatically download and install on your computer (you'll not be able to detect this kind of spyware, e.g. like snipper spy, most antivirus are "numb" with it).

Well, first check the system processes and activities through the task manager (Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete, it'll open up Task Manager automatically or you'll be prompted to select the operation). Click the "Processes" tab and check which program is consuming the highest percentage of cpu and ram (memory/commit charge). But if you are confused with the programs and processes, first close all the programs running (including the browser) and check again. If you suspect something with unknown name, right click the process name and "end process" or "End Process Tree". If possible, before you terminate the process, locate the folder and find out what exactly it is and delete them from the folder after you terminate the process (without terminating the process, you'll not be able to delete them). You have to make sure that the program is not a system process or important program. (Hint: check the process name, you'll be able to find out the program with their names)

You can also check the performance of the system by clicking the "Performance" tab on the Task Manager.

Also uninstall unimportant programs and applications from your computer, clean all the temporary files and clean the registry files. You can use this small tool to clean the temporary files and registry (click here to download). [open the link, click the purple button "Download Now" wait for 20 seconds and again click "Download File Now" purple link.] Install the program and run both the Cleaner and the Registry. (If you have trouble using this tool, let me know).

It's also possible that there's dust inside the box, so I would recommend you to clean the inside of the box and blow away all the dust and clean the clogged dust using a soft brush. Check the cpu heat-sink and clean it properly. Overheating is one of the main cause of the system slowdown, so it's important to check and clean the heat-sink, if possible apply some more coolant paste.

Maintaining a computer needs lots of work and maintenance measure to be taken, but if you spend one hour a week, that'll save your loss of 100s of bugs.

After you are done all these, check the system performance and it's speed. If you need further help, let me know.

Good luck.

Thanks for using FixYa.

    Hi,

Sorry, new here wasn't sure if it would cost me more cash. To be honest I think I have tried most of yoru suggestions already. I should've made it clear in the question. My Laptop (which I am writing this on) does work but is very slow all of a sudden.

I'm pretty sure it is'nt down to an update or any surfing on the web. As I said I don't think there is a virus as I scan for them. I might run Spybot during the night to be sure.

I think the RAM isn't working. I'm affraid it might be a Hardware fix that may be beyond me. Also of a concern is how quiet the machine is. It normally rattles and hums a little.

    thanks

Please download the program (the download link is with my first post) install it and run the program, restart your computer and you'll be able to find out the root of the problem.

Instructions: After it's installed, open the program [if you are asked for any update, just ignore it], click "Run Cleaner" and [if any warning pops up, click yes] wait for the scanning progress to reach 100%. After that click "Registry" (on the left pane with Blue icon), click "Scan for issues" wait for few seconds/minutes and after it reaches 100%, click "Fix all selected issues" --> "No" --> "Fix all selected issues" --> {if you are asked click "Ok"} --> "Close".

After you are done, once again run the cleaner after you close all the browsers and restart your computer and check how it works now.

Let me know after you are done. Thanks.

How do i fix a verbatim 53032 1 tb external hard drive to recover files? suddenly it turned to raw drive recognized by the pc but the blue light is on

Hello,
Computer external hard drive could become RAW file system due to a series of reasons, including virus attack, drive unformatted error, and drive corruption and more.
And no matte which one yours is, always remember not to format this RAW USB hard drive before you do take left drive data back with success.
Hence, from now on, stop writing this RAW drive and perform data recovery processes there to see whether all your original drive files are still recoverable.

Whatever you find out, before you do it, back up your data before you do it, if it still exists. If it's gone, you should be able to just format it and choose the file system you like. Right click the drive and hit format

Lacie by stark external hard drive is suddenly not recognised by my computer (always worked until now) and has a permanent red light. Tried all usb ports and restarting computer. Whats wrong?

have you dropped it? it could be any number of disc errors, two of the most common errors are caused by viruses and dropping. try putting the hard drive in the freezer for a day or so in a moisture and static resistant bag. just a possibly remedy, if that doesn't work, try removing the casing on the hd and setting it as a secondary drive after you plug it inside a desktop computer.

I cant start my dell latitude d410, more precise i can start it in like 1 time out of 50 tries, regardless if i plug in battery or try just with ac power. it lites 1st led for main power, just flashes...

From what you describe, the boot failure is most likely a failing hard disk drive that is very slow to get up to speed. As far as the battery, since the D410 has been out of production for several years and the battery expectancy is about 30 months, the battery and HDD like both need replacement

How do you boost up the speed of your computer? After a virus damaged the speed, and that's free? PLEASE HELP!

Have you tried doing fresh installation on your system, by formatting your hard disk, and installing new windows, as this will remove all hidden virus on your hard drive and will turn the speed of your computer back to its normal stage.

Also when you load your computer's hard disk with too many files, it will reduce the speed of your system gradually and not necessarily virus. This is the reason why it is good to have an external hard drive where you can load some of your file instead of overloading the system hard drive.

So try this and let's see what happens.

Take care

Hello,

You can perform a clean install. When you are asked if you want to reformat , say YES. That way all will be erased, and the virus also.

Hoe it helps

sounds like youve fried your hard drive. Has the computer been dropped recently?? Or you got a disk boot sector virus that has blocked access to the hard drive. the clicking is the data arms scratching into the disk media. Either way it means a new hard drive.
