Question about Dell Latitude D410 Notebook
Hi. System Fan should automatically kick in after few minutes of using the laptop. Especially if laptop is reaching to the temperature that it needs to cool down. Thats is when the FAN should kick in. If fan is not working at all then this could be a fan problem. You need to have the fan replaced in order to prevent further more damage.

I am afraid that your system is not infected with any virus or spyware or malware. It's hard to say that your system or my system is free from those malicious contents. Suppose if you are using Norton and you scan it without any findings of virus or etc..etc.. but if you scan it using another antivirus, you get tonnes of worms, spyware, etc.. I don't know why, but this is true. The fact is that all antiviruses databases are not similar and not updated at the same time.
If you think your pc speed is slow, first check the applications, if you downloaded some softwares last night or if you installed some applications last night, the software or the application could also be the cause of the problem. Did you run any updates? That's another question, some updates are "bugs" for some systems since all systems have different applications installed. Or did you visit unknown websites last night? Some unsecured or phishing sites contains virus or malware and once you open the site, it'll automatically download and install on your computer (you'll not be able to detect this kind of spyware, e.g. like snipper spy, most antivirus are "numb" with it).
Well, first check the system processes and activities through the task manager (Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete, it'll open up Task Manager automatically or you'll be prompted to select the operation). Click the "Processes" tab and check which program is consuming the highest percentage of cpu and ram (memory/commit charge). But if you are confused with the programs and processes, first close all the programs running (including the browser) and check again. If you suspect something with unknown name, right click the process name and "end process" or "End Process Tree". If possible, before you terminate the process, locate the folder and find out what exactly it is and delete them from the folder after you terminate the process (without terminating the process, you'll not be able to delete them). You have to make sure that the program is not a system process or important program. (Hint: check the process name, you'll be able to find out the program with their names)
You can also check the performance of the system by clicking the "Performance" tab on the Task Manager.
Also uninstall unimportant programs and applications from your computer, clean all the temporary files and clean the registry files. You can use this small tool to clean the temporary files and registry (click here to download). [open the link, click the purple button "Download Now" wait for 20 seconds and again click "Download File Now" purple link.] Install the program and run both the Cleaner and the Registry. (If you have trouble using this tool, let me know).
It's also possible that there's dust inside the box, so I would recommend you to clean the inside of the box and blow away all the dust and clean the clogged dust using a soft brush. Check the cpu heat-sink and clean it properly. Overheating is one of the main cause of the system slowdown, so it's important to check and clean the heat-sink, if possible apply some more coolant paste.
Maintaining a computer needs lots of work and maintenance measure to be taken, but if you spend one hour a week, that'll save your loss of 100s of bugs.
After you are done all these, check the system performance and it's speed. If you need further help, let me know.
Thanks for using FixYa.
