    Thanks it is R972

  • tlg552000 Aug 28, 2010

Hi, It is R972, above transistor 971 aand 976 on the board. Once again, i need to know the value of it. Do the values usually come in omhs?

    Thanks Terrie

If it is a resistor it is designated with a letter starting @ R X X X

( X is a number )

Tube heater on a sony trinitron not working

They will usually be marked on the crt board socket on foil side with H, and another way to find them is follow them back to the high voltage transformer where the go---you will read a short and that is normal across them--I would bet if you locate you will find at the high voltage transformer or between it and the crt board broken connections or a open resistor----less than 20 of the connections between flyback (the transformer) and crt board---FYI the voltage across the two should be 6.3 volts AC.

You can trace it that way also if you locate the source. Worst case is no voltage at the source which would mean the transformer is bad but that is rare.

My sony crt kv-g21p2 is having a video problem now. Picture is very dark. Regarding this problem i have alreadyn checked ABL resistors + neck board 680k and 100k resistor all the resistor values are...

With the power off, locate two, on some three, adjusters on the flyback transformer; use correction fluid or similar to mark the current settings of all. Rotate all of them back and forth several times to 'wipe' them internally. These are resistors and occasionally the wiper will cause noise and poor contact after years of operation. Put them back to the marks you made. Turn on the set and first check for any changes in appearance. If still dim, carefully adjust each control on the flyback while watching the effect via a mirror; one of these will affect focus, another the acceleration voltage/brightness. Carelessness can cause damage to several things so make adjustments in very small increments.
With the user controls set just below maximum, adjust the brightness at the flyback so the retrace lines are not visible.
If this doesn't work, the CRT's cathode emissions may simply have fallen over time. The coating responsible for electron production loses the surface supply of electrons and while there is a method to strip the surface and improve emissions, I've never used this on a color CRT, only on instrumentation displays so cannot predict how effective it may be on your Sony.
Also, if you do not own a RCL meter, you can at least visibly inspect any electrolytic capacitors in the near area of the flyback. Look for any bulging tops and deposits on the board around the bases. If you find anything like that - replace. Keep in mind that there are normally one or two bipolar electrolytics used there and you cannot substitute standard polarized parts without risking catastrophic (explosive) failure of them. If you see some to replace, get the values (capacitance & voltage) from any electrolytics on the CRT's base board and replace these too.
Good luck-

What is the value of a resistor, location is RY801S. It is on the convergence board with a flyback. Akai projection TV model# PT4250A, thanks for listening!

I have a 50" Samsung DLP Rear-Projection HDTV that has the RY801S location number on my Power Board. The Power schematic shows a resistor with value 8.2M@1/2W

My R52WH74YX66 HDTV shows in 3D and double vision

This is a common problem in these sets; if the set does not show "convergence" in the customer menu there are three pico type fuses on the deflection board and one is blown.

To be perfectly honest most shops do not like to fix this brand of set as the convergence circuit is spread across 3 circuit boards that are not available--all parts of course are RCA only and delays to get parts needed are common here.

Look in the customer menu and if convergence does not show, one of the protect fuses (really labeled as a "coil" is bad---these are usually located next to the High Voltage transformer and are usually tan in color about the size of a one watt resistor.

Let me know if you have questions as I am here to help.

Excessive brightness with horizontal retrace lines

This usually means the red, green and blue driver transistors on the CRT board have lost their 180 volt pull up voltage. So you will be looking for a diode off of the flyback transformer that usually will have a current limiting resistor before it that has opened. These resistors are usually low in value.

check Vertical IC out (LA78..) and resistor voltage supply from flyback transformer to this ic. Check the STR main power supply(and resistor near, change value), some times seems good out main board, but in operation not good

with your new flyback transformer ther should have had a resistor and cap in the kit.if you look at the fly back from the rear ,on the right side very close to the transformer.and on the other side 3 resistors one has changed value about 38k-ohm.

Check components around the flyback transformer. Especially small value resistors and diodes. Also check the solder joints on the flyback transformer. Please be safe and unplug set when checking parts, also discharge caps or wait a while after unplugging.
