1. First, make sure the socket at the mains is working, try a different appliance to check. Next, try this - hold the menu button down for 10 seconds. TV should power up; you will have to turn off front panel buttons on menu.

2. You can also try plugging in the TV through the USB on its panel to a computer or USB charger, and it may work. However, this is only a temporary solution.

3. Powering down the set or putting it in standby may have allowed the power supply to cool. Weak capacitors often go out of spec when they cool, thus preventing a section of the power supply from firing up properly again. There is a simple trick...just warm the back of the TV with a hair dryer for 5-7 mins after you have unplugged the TV. Look for the little areas of holes in the back panel of TV. Use these as your guide at where to use the hairdryer, but don't hold the dryer too close (say 5-6inches away). (Make sure the dryer is on High heat). If the TV doesn't turn on after you have heated it up (like it tries to come on but then turns off) you need to unplug the TV again, this resets it. And repeat those steps till it works. Resetting the TV after it fails to turn on is the key. Also, just leave the TV on. Don't turn in off. Since it is LCD, it doesn't take much power...only a few bucks extra a month for your utility bill.

4. A circuit board may crack about some of the larger components mounted on it. You can inspect the PCB's for fractures, and then repair them. It may also be poor soldering that has failed. I would be checking for these things first.

5. If you want to go in for a long term solution, you can easily replace the whole power board or just change the faulty capacitors. You will have to open the back panel and take a look. You can make out which are faulty, because their caps will be swollen on top. Here's a sample pic (not same model):

Check the specifications of the faulty capacitors, and get the replacements from your local electronics shop. If you are comfortable with this, you can use a pair of needle nose pliers to G-E-N-T-L-Y pull out the defunct capacitors. Once that is done, solder in the new capacitors carefully. If are unsure how to do this, try to get a friend who knows how to do this kinda stuff do it for you, or get a qualified technician. Warning: If you do not have a background in electronics repair, or are inexperienced, get a qualified technician to do it for you.

REMEMBER there are very dangerous voltages inside a TV that can KILL. Be sure to work SAFE when dealing with electricity. DISCONNECT THE POWER BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING.

Hope that helps!

I have a 46 inch Phillips LCD TV it is not powering on, I opened my TV to see if any visible damage was on the power board or the main board. I cannot see any visible damage at all.

If you have no light on at all check the fuses. If you have checked your main fuse box, the plug fuw and any internal fuse have you checked that the correct voltages are present in the power control card.

If you cannot do this have a qualified technician take a look.

Philips 42pfl3704d/f7 No power at all

its definitely the fuse. you have to go to the phillips website and type in your model number to get the right fuse. I went thru 3 different fuses and they all blew right away. phillips website sells the right ones 5 bucks each. Get it here and it will save you trouble trust me.

If nothing happens no light or sound when you plug it in to the wall it is definitely the fuse. mine was a T8AH250VP. You have to be sure to get that exact fuse. every letter exactly like that. there are a lot of similar fuses that will blow the moment u plug it in.

Hope this helps took me a month to figure this out. I was going to buy powerbaords for no reason. fixed my 42 inch phillips for under 10 dollars. couldn't be happier. Also always run your tv threw a power ack. If you plug directly to the wall your fuse will blow frequently.

Wharfedale LCD2710HDAF no power to tv, checked cable and changed fuse a few times, new power lead? or is this a common problem?

The power cord must be checked using a multimeter. The test is done reading impedance (ohms) between plug's prongs and contacts to TV power board.

If the power cord is OK and there is no power, then the problem is the power board inside the TV.

My Phillips had actually locked-up and have not been able to get it turn ON - tried switching batteries in the remote, tried disconnecting every cable, unplugging the unit, hitting the power switch on the...

hi....hope this can help...
try to check the power cord, see if there's a cut or open wire...
there's a possibility a open or no continuity of wires from plug to the power supply due to frequent bending of wires.. so no AC voltage goes through the wire..
second check for an internal fuse..if it has a open wire (hair like) inside it is visible inside the glass tube...if it is open or has light discoloration..replace fuse w/ same type/ value...if it is extreme dark discoloration you may have a shorted bridge type rectifier or power MOSFET...i suggest that if you have replace the fuse and tested the unit and still blown the not attempt to replace fuse and test the may cause further damage to the TV..ask assistance for repairing the power supply, it is repairable than to purchase a new power supply and gonna cost you less...good day... please rate and vote...

No power on tv, no lights

there may complaint with ur tvs power supply. first of all check the voltage at the power outlet to which ur tv is connected. if it is ok check the power chord. if all these are proper then problem is inside ur tv. may its power supply fuse may burned. do not attempt to replace the fuse, because there maybe some thing is faulty at the other side, that why the fuse burned. u can find out the complaint if u have a through knowledge in electronics. if not do not attempt to do any thing. consult some qualified person.if u have knoweldge in electonics then remove the power supply board and check mosfets in the power supply board. if find some faulty components then replace it. u can switch on the power supply without connecting to the tv. be very carefull, there are high voltage points. cnonnect a 60w bulb intred in place of fuse . connect the two leads of the bulb to the two end of the fuse connector. and connect the power. if there is any problem the bulb will glose until u switch off, if not the bulb will glows once and go off after a fue second [check the standby poer supply voltage (5v)]. if so remove the bulb and insert a fuse (note the rating of fuse, use same rating). connect power supply board to ur tv. then plug it on.

The main power supply is trying to fail. You might try giving us the model number since we can't guess exactly what kind of TV you have; LCD or plasma?? They suffer from some differing ills-
