Hi jezzwhizz

You'll see that at the back of your Projector there is 2 VGA ports 1 in (normally blue) and 1 out ( normally grey ).

You are most probably using the grey one , switch it to blue.

Just went through this issue with a 1200MP. The cause of the failure was a failing optical speed sensor on the color wheel assembly. It overheats and produces an invalid signal shortly after startup, causing the projector to shut down. The good news is that this is a $2 part. The bad news is that I wouldn't really call this a "DIY" repair unless you have the ability to unsolder and replace tiny surface-mount electronic components. You will also have to do extensive disassembly just to get at the part, which is buried inside the optical system. I am a professional electronics tech, and removing/replacing the part took me about 2 hours on a fully-equipped workbench. Troubleshooting the unit to FIND the failed part (without any service manual or schematic) took another couple hours, FWIW.

If you want to give it a try, the part you need is a GP2S27 "photointerrupter" manufactured by Sharp. These were discontinued a year or so ago, but some distributors still have stock (get them while you can). I got mine from DigiKey. This is a tiny little part about the size of a match head, with 4 terminals that need to be soldered onto a small circuit board, after removing the old part. You will need a steady hand, a fine-pointed soldering iron, and a magnifier with plenty of light.

Good luck!

Dell 1200MP works with PC but not the DVD player,

Hi.

If you have a replacement cable test the DVD using a different cable, you never know.

Try the following:

  • Unplug both projector and DVD from power.
  • Keep units connected together by video cable.
  • Connect back and restart the DVD first.
  • Restart the projector only once that DVD is ON.

If it still does not work , then there may be a fault.

DELL 1200MP projector problem

I don't know that particular model, but usually these are hung u pside down and the projector can flip the image. That should take care of it. Also, depending upon the angle to the screen, you may need to adjust the "keystone" as well. That will allow the final picture to be square as if the projector was at the correct angle.
