Question about Garden

Open Question

Hi, I have a Ariens 1740 ezr. Its about 10yrs old. The problem that I have is that the drives don't go the same speed. When you first start the mower, the mower is slow, but warms up and goes faster. Reverse has gotten really slow. If you try to tow a small yard trailer you can see a big difference in speed.\r\nDo the drives have a way to add oil or change the oil? Do the drives just go bad and you have to replace them, or? Thanks, Brent

SOURCE: ariens ezr 1742 will not move

There is one common problen that causes this. Infront of the rear wheels there are two housings for the indepentent hydrostatic transmissions. There is one gold colored shaft with a ninety degree angle on it sticking out from EACH of the housings on the top front. Again these are on both sides and they each need to be pushed downward so that the rods can then be pushed backward into the transmissions to inguage them so both of the wheels are powered. Give this a try.

SOURCE: I have a single cylinder,

The carburetor has debris in it or is dirty. You will need to clean it thoroughly, every passage, every hole and inspect all parts. There is a little trick that I have tried on my mower that worked years ago, I put some carb cleaning fuel additive in the tank and then ran it through the whole tank. It made a big improvement for me, but may not correct the issue. It is just a trick, maybe you will get lucky, if not work, the only solution will be to tear into the carburetor.

I hope this helps get you going soon.

Check to see if the solenoid is getting power. On the solenoid there are 3 wires. Two big, one from the battery, the other going to the starter. The 3rd wire is what activates the solenoid. Using a test light or volt meter. See if its getting power on the small wire when you turn the key. If no power, ignition switch, safety switches or fuses. If you are getting power replace the solenoid. If you have 4 wires. Test the two smaller ones.

When turning on pto blows the fuse

Look over the entire wiring harness wherever it may be touching metal as it probably is chaffed, simply tape and zip tie it away from the ground source.
