Question about Sky Toys

Help !!! . I am having the same problem all the time,my sky box keeps saying its updating system software,all box lights on,and locks me out.I am currently on a touring site,any ideas?.

Hi have you tried unplugging from the mains for 10min or so then plug it back in and you will have to wait about 20min before you try turning it on then once it is on you may have to wait for it to load up for about 15min if after doing this its still having problems then the chances are if its sky plus then this would point towards hard drive failure and their isnt much you can do yourself as the drive will need replacing.

if its just a standard sky box then this would point towards a firmware problem and this is also something you cant update yourself, the only option you have yourself is to contact the person who runs the site as sky wont speak to you as it wont be in your name and ask them to call sky for you

im sorry their is no easy fix but with a problem like that it sounds like it needs the firmware updating or hard drive replacing so call the owners of the site your in and ask them to call sky for you.

I have sky tv and a marantz system, marantz system flashes pcm dig and tv loose signal intermittently, help


Your Sky box might need a firmware refresh. Switch it off at the mains socket. Press and hold down the BACKUP key on the SKY BOX (not the remote). Switch on at the mains and keep the backup key pressed down until the TV shows an info screen that the box is updating.

Allow the box to complete the cycle.

Try your system again.

Sky keeps going off


Hi Denise

When you say it keeps going off, do you mean that the Sky box itself switches off, does it then come back on? Or do you mean that the sky signal is lost (sky box then reports that the signal is lost) and then comes back again? Please explain in a little bit more detail.

Sky +not connecting


Do a hard reset &/ update will solve most problem, It will take about 10min. How to unplug the box, plug in but keep pressing backup button. release the button when all led light up and shows "Updating System Software" message. Thus done.

Sky digibox software download


yes you can download the latest software to your digibox..... you must do the followings to the letter..

1)remove your sky card
2)turn your box onto stand by
3) unlpug from the mains socket

4)when you plug it back in hold the back up button on the box in for 10 seconds and release it
all lights will come on the front of the sky box and dispay downloading software on your tv

5) when it says welcome to sky put you veiwing card back in

job done.............

The hd tv keeps cutting out and saying no signal


It not the tv,u restart the Sky HD box the signal come back right?The Sky HD box is the problems,replaced the box,u will solved this problems.

with your tv swiched on, Turn your sky box off then keep your finger on the backup button whilst turning your box back on, make sure you keep your finger on backup button until all the lights come on on the front of your sky box, or a message comes on screen (tv) saying "UPDATING SYSTEM SOFTWARE, DO NOT DISCONNECT FROM THE MAINS, THIS WILL TAKE APPROX 10 MINS"

I work for sky as an Engineer (not a subby)

HDCP is the encryption sent down when a program is transmitted. Over the years I have had several jobs where this is the case.
What you can do to fix the problem is Download update for your sony bravia telly this will fix the problem. There is another solution, if you get another engineer out ask him to put a different manufacturers box in..... Sky HD is made by Thomson, samsung, pace, Amstrad,
both solutions have worked for me when coming across theses faults whilest installing sky... The first one is going to be your best option... for example at the minute all I am getting when i go to pick my HD stock up is Amstrad. No other manufacturers so you may find it hard for the engineer to source you a different make.

If neither work. Force a download to your HD box (they have been updating the software recently so this may also work for you.)

Take the power out the back of the HD box. hold down the Standby button then reinsert the power. hold Standby button in until all light are lit on the front of the box... Then wait 10 minutes (better off making yourself a cuppa) give that one a try.

if you have had new software downloaded on the box and it still dont work then you will need a new box. have you tried a system download if not then take your viewing card out the sky box then take the power lead out count to ten. then wilst pushing the backup button on the front of the sky box plug the sky box back in keeping the backup button pressed , wait till the on screen message says sytstem download do not disconnect from mains blaa blaa take your finger off the backup button and wait till the tv screen goes blank. give it about 60 seconds then try turning the sky box back on this should work.

Pace Sky plus box


You have 2 choices, software reset or hardware reset. It's up to you what you try, but please read the advice in full before starting - if you break your box, please don't blame me!

SOFTWARE RESET

This is useful if your disk usage percentage doesn't go down even after clearing programmesfilms off.

The following is offered on an ADVICE only basis, take care when making changes:

WARNING following this advice is totally at your discretion and anything which happens to your digibox as a result is your responsibility, not mine. You will lose all recorded programmes from your Sky+ Planner.

Sky tech support can talk you through performing a system restore over the phone. To do this yourself, press 'services' on your Sky plus remote, then select option 4. Next press 0, 1, select - you should now see the engineer's menu. Choose option 8, 'Full System Reset'. The box will now take a few minutes to reset itself

Try pausing or recording again, and if the problem persists disconnect the digibox from the mains power. Press and hold the 'left' and 'right' navigation buttons on the front of the digibox whilst you reconnect the mains power. Continue holding the buttons in for about 20 seconds, and when the ring of light on the front comes on, press the 'select' button on the front of the digibox (between the left and right buttons you were holding). The Sky+ recording logo lights will spin backwards and, according to the Sky engineer, this will "clear the hard drive".

Once this is done, disconnect the digibox from the mains power again and this time press and hold the 'back up' button whilst you reconnect the mains power. Continue holding it for about 15 seconds until 3 lights on the front of the box come on and you get a full-screen message saying "Updating system software. Do not disconnect mains supply or satellite dish."

Leave the digibox doing its thing for about 10 minutes and it should be fixed! Try pausing and recording things again... hopefully you've just saved yourself £65

If you've not been so lucky, you'll have to get Sky to fix it for you. Some people report that if you ask to cancel your subscription Sky sometimes offer a free callout to fix the problem - you're more valuable to them as a paying customer than the cost of an engineer callout

HARDWARE RESET

Full System Reset via front panel:
  1. Remove power at mains.
  2. Hold LEFT+RIGHT.
  3. Apply power, wait for ring to light.
  4. Release LEFT+RIGHT, press SELECT.
  5. Ring cycles backwards while disk is quick formatted.
  6. If format sucessful PLAY lights up, if not RECORD lights up.
  7. Box goes into standby - wait 30 seconds are wake it up.

Warning: Full System Reset deletes all your recordings and planner entries.
