Question about IBM ThinkPad R52 Notebook

1 Answer

My IBM R52 laptop displays some vertical thin lines (red, green, blue, white, etc). I noticed this problem arises basically IBM R52 and R80 models. Some of my friends too are suffering from this problem and interestingly those who have these R52 or R80 models. I think this can't be a LCD problem as similar problem is taking place for others in the same model. I expect to have some genuine solutions.

This sounds similar to a fault i had with an old dell laptop... very thin vertical lines running the length of the screen. Unfortunately it was an LCD problem, the screen was kaput replacing the screen solved the problem.

To test if it is an LCD fault, simply plug your laptop into an external monitor... if you get no lines on external monitor then its a faulty LCD screen.

Is that solution genuine enough for you?

Check the connecting cable to display paned and its T'Con board [LVDS cable] for any loose contact with its either end sockets. Reseat it once and check. If you wish to get more details, http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ Pull up previous posts there, either by type in the model name to your set in its search box, or view it in Timeslide option.

Hi,

I'm afraid that that the display will have to be replaced. If you want to do-it-yourself, I recommend the following tutorial video.

Screen particially blacking out with vertical lines at bottom of my DELL laptop. at the bottom of laptop screen there are vertical lines @ 2" they are blue, dark gray, white, purple, light green lines....

Tryconnecting an external monitor to the laptop. You may have to select the videooutput to display on the external monitor by holding down the blue key and pressing the blue CRT/LCD (located on one of the keys, likeF8,F9, etc..). If the problem occurs on the external monitor with the batteryor AC power, then you have a problem with either the video card or motherboardin the laptop. If the problem does not happen using the external monitor thenyou laptop's LCD display is going bad.

Hi,

Try to hook up an external monitor just to check that it is not a problem with the video card of the laptop. Most likely the LCD cable is loose or the LCD inverter needs to be replaced.

Hope this helps.

I HAVE IBM R52 1860 MODEL LAPTOP, ONE THIN AND ONE BROD WHITE vertical line is coming on screen, while everything is fine on external monitor. give me all trouble shoot options please. thank you, manoj

The most likely cause for this will be that the Diodes that control those pixels have failed, in other words the laptop screen is broken and will need to most likely be replaced. This is a hardware problem not a software issue. As such I advise you check your warranty and if it is still in date contact your warranty providers. If your warranty is not still in date then I advise you take your laptop to your local computer repair shop and get them to check it over.

Thin vertical yellow line and a white vertical line appeared on ibm thinkcenter r52

What is happening to your laptop is the power line connecting a row of pixels is failing so only partial colors are showing up causing the vertical lines. Usually screen replacement is the only answer to fix it. You can usually find replacement LCD on Ebay.

Laptop screen displays vertical lines of various colours

Have you tried to connect your laptop to external monitor?
If you get normal picture on external monitor, then you need to replace LCD screen, but if you get same picture on external screen, then unfortunately you will need new motherboard, because graphics card is integrated to motherboard.

Blue line on the screen

Try hooking up an external monitor to the video adapter on your laptop. If the screen appears fine (no blue line) then your video card is good but you laptop's LCD monitor is bad. I would check eBay for a replacement. They are not too difficult to replace if you are somewhat mechanically inclined (can unscrew some screws and disconnect a wire plugged in the motherboard).

hope this helps! : )
