My cart has 6 8volt batteries that are dead my manual shows 4 12 volt batteries should I replace the 6 8 volt with 4 12 volt batteries

make sure that they are in fact 8 volt batteries
You can replace them with 6 by 12 volt batteries as the end voltage (48 volts ) is the same

My battery needs to be replaced. The current battery is a 12 volt 7 amp and I have a new battery that is the exact same dimensions but it is a 12 volt 8 amp. Can I use it?

Yes, the 1 extra amp will not make a difference. The 8 amp will actually last just a little longer before it runs out of power.

Battery connections

? I'm at a lost on why you need 8 battery's for 96 volts? make it 9 and you have 108 in volts?
not my problem, You hook up positive from bat 1 to Neg on battery 2 pos on battery 2 to neg on battery 3, and keep going till you only have 1 positive and i negative and when those are used you will have 96 volts,. OR you could just use the inverter and 1 battery for 110 volts?

Need a battery charger for the 21.6 volt battery

It will work if it is of the same charger/receiver style. The only issue is that you will only be charging to 19 volts and not 21.6, I would estimate by doing some simple math that you would lose about 6-8% of the batteries capacity but you would be able to use it.

Starts with a jump but cuts off soon as cables are disconnected

Check your batteries voltage you need at least 12 volts. If you don't have 12 volts then put the battery on a 2-4 amp charge for 6-8 hours. Then if the battery does'nt have 12 volts get a new battery. If your battery has 12 volts afterwards and still cuts off then your alternator is faulty. With the engine running your alternators power wire should show 13-15 volts coming out.

Can I use a 8 volt battery on a 6 volt tractor or will it trip the voltage regulator and blcck the generator?

YOU CAN USE AN 8 VOLT BATTERY, IT SHOULDN'T HURT ANYTHING. THE ONLY THING IS IT WON'T STAY FULLY CHARGED. THE GENERATOR IS DESIGNED FOR A 6 VOLT BATTERY NOT 8 VOLTS. WHAT I DO IS CHANGE THE SYSTEM TO 12 VOLTS. NOTHING WILL HAVE TO BE DONE TO THE STARTER, IF THE TRACTOR STARTS LIKE IT IS SUPPOSED TO. IT WILL JUST START FASTER. YOU WILL NEED NEW POINTS & CONDENSER & A RESISTOR FOR THE DISTRIBUTOR. ALSO A 12 VOLT BATTERY & A MID 1970'S INTERNALLY REGULATED ALTERNATOR, MOUNTED IN PLACE OF THE GENERATOR. THIS A LITTLE WORK BUT THE TRACTOR WILL START AMAZINGLY FAST. I HAVE DONE THIS SEVERAL TIMES & IT WORKS GREAT. IF THE FUEL GAUGE STILL WORKS YOU WILL NEED A SPECIAL RESISTOR FOR THAT. OF COURSE ANY LIGHTS WILL HAVE TO BE CHANGED TO 12 VOLT GOOD LUCK. DR. VOLT.

Was advised to put an 8 volt battery in my 6 volt 600, peppped up the starter; worked fine. now generator not working. can a 6 volt generator charge an 8 volt battery? did it for 2 years without...

It won't charge it fully. When you put an eight-volt battery in a six-volt machine you want to adjust the voltage generator to charge at about 9.5 volts. 9.9 will be the outgassing point for an eight-volt battery, if you keep it between the two points I specify you'll be happy.

If you need help with the regulator give me a write back with the 'comments' button and we'll go through the process.

Want to connect electric lights to ez-go electric golf cart. It is a six battery system and I want to simply add a front light and rear red light.

You said you have 6 batteries. Are they 6 volt or 8 volt? Hint-- 6 volt has three holes in the top and an 8 volt has 4 holes on top of the battery. Battery manufacturers recommend the use of a voltage reducer wired to the whole bank. This take the 36 or 48 volts down to 12 volts and is regulated. this is recommended so as not to stress just 2 batteries. If you have 6 volt batteries, you can use any 2 that are wired in series.
