The solution is not expensive, but it is time consuming, provided you are handy. About the only solution is a new switch. HOWEVER, if you are able to pull any of the chain out, say with needle nose pliers, you may be able to get the end connector from a replacement chain to connect to the broken chain and perhaps work.

How do I put the housing back on so the chain brake is operational after adjusting chain

You could name the model. If you didn't break anything, and still have a brake band, just release the brake mount the bar, put the chain over the drive sprocket then the bar, adjust the tensioner so its tang can engage the hole in the bar when the clutch cover goes on. The rest should be obvious.
If there are problems with the mechanicals of the brake, you need to fix them first or have them fixed.

You have to buy a new pull chain, usually two wire. Take light off fan and put new pull chain on as you take the old one off.

The chain controlling the fan speed broke off inside the mechanism. Can it be fixed or am I stuck with the fan on low?

You need to take off the cover and you will see screws holding in the chain and the mechanism. You can go to home depot, lowes, ace and match the mechanism to the one you have and it will have all the speeds.

I just moved into a house with a Hunter ceiling fan only controlled with a hand-held remote controller that has 2 speeds: OFF and HIGH. How can I adjust this fan to a lower speed?

If the fan still has a pull chain on the side of the motor housing, you can use that to change the speeds and/or turn it it OFF or ON. If it has 2 chains, one is for the speed control and the other is for the light fixture, it is so equipped.

Hope this helped you and thanks for choosing FixYa.

Low and medium fan speed no longer works on our Hampton Bay fan when you pull the chain. The high speed works. Can this be fixed with a repair part?

the speed is controlled by a capacitor bank ... high speed uses no capacitors, low speed uses a small capacitor in series with the motor and medium speed uses a larger capacitor ... the pull chain switch selects which capacitor is used ... so if the capacitors go bad or if the switch fails to select them then you will not have low and medium speed ... so you could have a bad speed capacitor block or a bad switch or wiring that has come loose inside the fan (that connects the capacitors) .. all are replaceable .. i would first remove the covers from the fan and check all wire connections .. check the switch to see if it operates smoothly .. then suspect the capacitor block .. if you were an electrician then you could bypass the switch to test its function but if you are not then make sure power is off while working on the fan .. you should be able to get a new capacitor block from the manufacturer .. most are similar if they will phisically fit in the fan housing and have the same connectors ..

Pulled chain to slow down fan speed. Chain came out of the housing. Yikes. What should I do? Perfetually have the fan running or can I take it apart and fix it?

Turn the fan off at the breaker. Is there any chain still hanging out? If yes, buy new section of chain at hardware store. If no, buy new pull chain switch at hardware and replace.

The switch that controls my fan speed is in the off position and when I go to try to pull the chain and get it going it is very tight and will not move or start the fan. I am worried that if I pull too...

hi there,
that was a common problem on that fan, the chord chain was stuck on slot groove way to rotary switch inside you ceiling fan,the only way to
repair this to disconnect and pull out the ceiling fan and dismantle the housing whrere the control switch is located, b4fb3a6.jpg upon opening you can see the groove where chord chain was stuck released, possible if you can change the chord w/c is a smooth one so it will never stuck, then reassembly again and put it back, or you can change the control switch by modifying the circuit control and put it on your wall, but this is not easy job you can hire and certified technician to do this, have a good day.don't forget to rate me,thanks a lot.

The chain for fan speed control comes through the glass light globe at such an angle that the fan can not be changed to different speeds is there a fix for this problem

Never heard of that, usually the chains come out of the housing above the light and hang straight down.
Is the chain tangled somehow?
