Would it be the Amplifier or my remote control producing this problem?

Dirty contacts on the buttons. Take apart and use electrical switch cleaner.

Toshiba model 37AV502U TV

Keyboard issues and answers:

A problem that is more common than most people think is an issue with buttons on thecontrol keyboards of modern TV sets.

Recently for whatever reason I have seen more questions about this so I have composed this answer and solution for these kinds of problems.

It can be any button on the set-channel up/down or volume up down-you name it.

The symptoms are the same: channel will scan up or down andwill not stop-remote control has no effect on this---It can be channel, volume,or even input or menu if the set has those up front or on the side of the set.

All these push controls have something in common-beneatheach is a tiny momentary push switch-when pushed with the plastic button itperforms a specific task (vol up or down etc.).

What happens is the afflicted switch beneath the plasticbutton is bad-when released it is supposed to stop its function but does not.

Keyboard or button controlled features have PRIORITY over the remote control, hence the remote will not stop this fromhappening. Both the remote and thekeyboard go to the microprocessor in the set but keyboard is first in line.

How to resolve this issue?

Someone needs to get at the tiny pc board with the buttonsand locate the one associated with the issue (ie sound or channel etc) andunsolder that switch from the board-usually just two pins (may be more formounting only purposes) and then see if set does not have the issue with switchout of the circuit.

For the TECH minded with the board out test here theswitches with a ohm meter set to high resistance-any reading with button notpressed means a bad switch-seen ones that read 5,000 plus ohms-it may benecessary to unsolder more than one switch to locate the offender here butan open reading with switch not pressedis the rule.

I have taken the time to compose this answer as some do notunderstand what is happening in these types of situations---No magic wand orsmoke and mirrors here-have to disable the offending switch to know.

The beauty (in my view) of this kind of problem is if found, you really do not have to replace anypart-just operate the set with the remote with one button that no longerfunctions on the set itself-who could ask for more?

Volume increases to 100 or drops all the way to 0 when pressing the volume button on either the remote or back of the tv. I can't control the volume I want.

I had the same issue. You can use the on screen volume buttons on screen to stop issue and don't use the physical buttons anymore. Watch out about a month after the volume problem started all physical buttons on my DXN7120 stopped working. There are a few reports of this online, I have not found a fix yet.

Stop button problem

This was a common failure with this model and requires replacement of the control block assemble. This is an assembly with several functions tied together in one preformed unit with a flexible cable arrangement. This ordinarily is a pro repair situation. They have an upgraded part for this. Could be a bit pricey however. Good luck, magic seadog
