A stuck shutter is another common failure mode for digital cameras. The symptoms of a stuck or "sticky" shutter are very similar to CCD image sensor failure. The camera may take black pictures (for shutter stuck closed), or the pictures may be very bright and overexposed, sometimes with lines, especially when taken outdoors (for shutter stuck open). To confirm a stuck shutter, put the camera in any mode other than "Auto", and turn the flash OFF (you don't want to blind yourself for the next step). Next look down the lens and take a picture. You should see a tiny flicker in the center of the lens as the shutter opens and closes. If no movement is seen, then you likely have a stuck shutter. If so, please see this link for further info and a simple fix that may help.

SOURCE: card locked

Have you tried looking at the memory card? Sometimes there is a switch on the card itself that slides up and down to lock, or unlock the card for usage. Hope this helps! (It should be white, and a semi-translucent plastic.)

SOURCE: I have a Canon powershot

Hi!

It's possible that you may have accidentally pressed the DISP button to disable the LCD. Please try to press the DISP button after you switch on the camera. If the display does not show up on the first press, try pressing the button twice or until the LCD turns on.

Please let me know if it fixed the problem , or not so that we can try other options.

Good luck and have a nice day!

Hopefully you resolved this already. If not, push the "DISP." button left of the MENU button. Pushing it gives you three options: black (for discreet shooting so your LCD doesn't give garner dirty looks from fellow concert goers), liveview, and liveview with info overlayed (shooting mode, ISO, etc.). Good luck!

Also note that if you read the "reader's comments" section of the link, you may notice that Fix #5a seems to work best for the SD1000. Just be careful doing that particular fix.

My Canon powershot SD1000 screen isn't working. Iv'e charged the battery but when I turn the camera on, the screent is black. It won't take any pictures

It's very likely the CCD sensor that needs to be replaced. If you need to have it serviced, this place is excellent for the Powershots and not much at all if you need to have one fixed: www.camerasandparts.com
Before having it fixed, press the DISP button first and make sure you just didn't turn the display off. If you end up needing service for the Canon, that place above is really great for these cameras.

My camera will no longer show the image on the screen when I am taking a picture with my Canon PowerShot SD1000 digital camera. Can this be fixed or is it time for a new camera?

most likely you have turned the dispaly off. find the display key and turn the screen back on.

another option is to go into the menu, then go to display and set it there.

Flash Does not work. canon sd1000

This happened to my SD1000 and I followed the step by step instructions shown here:
http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Replacing+Canon+PowerShot+SD1000+Broken+Flash+Unit/7778/1

and when I got to step 15, I found that the small plug that connects the flash to the camera body had been disconnected when the camera had been dropped. I simply pressed the connection back in tight and reassembled the camera - and it works. Maybe this happened to yours too??

Sounds like you may not be in "Auto" mode. Press the "Func/Set" button, then press Right or Left to select the "Auto" mode.

Screen goes black and purple when I turn it on. If I try taking a picture it just shows black and purple

This is classic symptoms of CCD failure. This is very unusual to occur for a SD1000, but it is quite common for specific older Canon models as defective Sony CCD's were installed in many models over a span of three years.
Are you certain that your camera is an SD1000, and that you didn't have a typo and really mean SD100? The SD100 is one of the model cameras have the defective CCD. If your camera is indeed an SD100, Canon will repair this problem for free, with free shipping too. This is regardless of warranty status.
Please check this link for more info.
Applicable cameras include:
A40, A60, A70, A75, A80, A85, A95, A300, A310, S1 IS, S60, S200, S230, S330, S400, S410, S500, SD100, SD110, IXUS V2/300/400/430/500, IXY Digital 30/30a/200a/300a/D320/400/ 450/500
