The responding technician seemed to have some idea what the cause of the problem is, but I cannot understand his broken English response.

You have probably a compressor start capacitor or relay damage and you have to replace first capacitor and if problem insist then go to the relay. If the problem insist then you have a complete compressor failure. Often when this happens the compressor will "lock up" or not be able to turn when power is supplied to it. Overheating or lack of lubrication are usually the main causes of compressor failure. Overheating can be caused by the outdoor coil around the compressor getting clogged with dirt, leaves, or grass. Loss of the refrigerant charge will also cause the compressor to overheat. It is the cool return gas coming back to the compressor that helps to keep it from overheating.

As you can see there are many things that can go wrong with an air conditioner and I have not come close to exhausting the possibilities here. I have just touched on the most common problems in a very basic way.
There are some basic trouble shooting things that can be done very easily. Most problems are above out of the range of comfort for many homeowners and professional help should be consulted before any attempt is made at repairs. Remember also, that the release of refrigerant gases into the atmosphere is a federal offense in the
US. Proper care must always be taken to minimize the release of any gases. A license is also required to handle refrigerants. Make sure that the professional you call has the proper certifications to handle refrigerants properly

Hello,

what this problem indicate is that there has bee a gap between the compressor and the fan what you are to do to fix up this problem is to carefully put off the power supply connected to the air condition then bring the air condition closer to your self unscrew it from the screw and then locate the fan cover with a white round plastic remove it and then position it back to it closer to the filter ,
but if the problem remain then it mean that there is a leakage of (gas) from the compressor which will need a seal up by a refrigerator technician .

thank and thanks for using fixya.

sounds like you need to check your run cap it is silver in the outside unit and it runs the compressor and fan motor. Check on the capacitor what size it is and replace it for example 45+5 uf.

Fan works, air conditioning does not. Try resetting the power (in the proper sequence - outdoor unit followed by indoor unit). Air conditioning came on briefly (less than a minute) than stopped, leaving...

Without seeing the unit,

1 - the condenser fan (which is in the outdoor unit) could be blown. This would cause the unit to go off on high head pressure.

2 - it could be low on refrigerant, which makes it do nothing but blow room temperature air around. The unit would go off on low pressure

3 - the filter is dirty, blocking the cooling

4 - the compressor could be shorted, or a corroded wire somewhere that feeds the contactor

Amana Cooling Condensing Unit fan stops spinning after 15 mins

Capacitor, dirty condencer coil causing the motor amps to run too high. But most likely worn bearing on blade side of motor causing it to pull to one side causing it to over heat and shut down. Sleve bearings should have no side play.

Change your heating delay to shut off sooner, you can find this in the installation manual. Also the Thermostat may have delay after heat as well. It is true there could be many variables, but it also sounds like the Heatpump is not charged properly, you will have to have a different tech come out and check that. No need to have the installer mess your system up any further. This solution will only correct the auxilary heat, your heat pump on the other hand will require expert skills.

Air handler only blows air for 3-5 minutes before shut off & not cycling frequently

Sounds like it could be a very weak run capacitor on the blower motor. Run capacitors are sized specifically to the needs of the motor. When a run cap gets weak, the motor trys to compensate for it by drawing more power. More power draw = more heat in the motor, then the motor will overheat and shut off to protect itself. When the motor cools off it will automatically restart and run until it overheats again. Keep in mind that I am a technician that normally diagnoses equipment in a hands on manner. There are many practices and concepts that transcend all air conditioning systems but it is a constantly evolving industry. I live in south eastern WA and I don't see Amana units except as window units. It is possible to have something else causing this problem (faulty thermostat, failing thermal relay(if used), problem with electronic controls(if used)) there are a lot of potential variables

Amana heat/air conditioning pump

You are going to have to increase the amount of heat absorbed by the evaporator coil on the indoor section of your system. First change the filter. Second turn the power off to the outdoor section and leave the indoor fan running until all the ice on the evaporator coil has thawed this could take a few hours. Third you need to verify that you are getting adequate airflow across the indoor evaporator coil and the outdoor condenser coil both fans should be spinning at full speed and airflow should be unobstructed by dirty coil fins or debris Hopefully after you've done this you will have cold air blowing inside and the larger of the two lines entering the unit outside will be cool to the touch but not frozen or even frosted regardless of run time and the small one should be the slightly warm but not hot. If the larger line continues to freeze then it could indicate a number of problems but essentially your condensers cooling capacity is outrunning your evaporator coils ability to absorb heat from air stream circulating in your home.Hope it works out for you GL!

Air conditioning unit not cooling

the problem sounds like a defective capacitor its located on the condensing unit outside, also a contactor that is used can be defective also.
