Hi, my name is John. Sounds like you have a wire off the mic. plug and its touching another wire. Try another mike, or take and see if it works on PA. To take the end apart off the mike, remove the tiny screws, should be three(3), careful not to misplace them. Slide the end back, and see if any wires are off or touching another wire, if so, re solder, then put the screws back in place and your done. May have to relocate the unit, to get rid of squeal......hope this was very helpful....

Radio very noisy, been to 2 dealers and been told 2 different stories both with end result cannot be fixed. Does anyone else have this problem and any diy ideas

by noisy do you mean static, squeal on starting the car or what
if it is static it could be a bad aerial
squeal could be electrical interference from starter motor
dealers do not fix radios so you would be better off taking it to a radio shop ( where radios are installed ) for a qualified opinion and diagnosis
if you take it to several and you get the same opinion then get a quote to fix or replace

Its a sante fe radio with the loud squeal

a loud squeal in a radio is feedback into an amp or receiver
It can also be interference from an electronic unit such as a malfunctioning alternator or ignition module

I have a Cobra 148 mounted on the hump in a pickup truck and it works fine. Then I plugged in a old Turner +3 desk microphone and I get bad feedback when it is keyed up and I can also hear my voice thru...

You're most likely getting lots of RF feedback from the metal cab of your truck, combined with the real sensitive nature of the amplified Turner mike.I would put an old original Cobra (coffin mike) handheld mike or a Astatic Roadking 56 (RK56) on it.They are really hard to beat, especially when you have lots of feedback & squealing. I also have a 148GTL (malaysia made) that has a Turner +3 deskmike & it squeals in my truck but not in the house. The 148GTL has given me better service than ANY other radio I've owned. It has 120 channels (freeband) & upper & lower sideband. I think mine is a 5pin Cobra-type plug-in. Try a simpler mike & good luck. Squirrly

Hisses/squeals when transmitting

Check the input voltage into the radio while in transmit. The voltage maybe dropping as you go into transmit which causes it to drop into receive. That in turn allows the voltage to come back up. With your finger still on the PTT it tries to transmit again, etc. This could cause a feedback squeal and other symptoms.

I can hear my buddys talking to me on my cb radio but once i try and talk to them it just sqweeks

Usually a squeal is feedback from a very high SWR or a mic wiring issue. Have the SWR tested and try another mic. Make sure it has the proper wiring. Just because a 4 pin mic fits in the jack doesnt mean it has the same wiring configuration. Also if you run an amp dont wire the amp and radio to the same location. That can creat a ground loop and cause squeal, but not always.

ICOM IC-A6 Feedback type interference

The problem is caused by the microphone preamp in the headset demodulating the AM transmission. Sordin MSA headsets also have the same problem. What you require is a headset with no electronics in it and a dynamic microphone.
