Question about Sub-Zero 690 Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

Where is the 690s ice maker fill tube? I am not getting ice and think the tube may be clogged with ice and needs thawing with hair dryer. Former owner says one day it just stopped making ice.

You can do that, but if it does it again you will need to order a new inlet valve. This where your water line is connected in the back. Rate me if I helped.

Ice maker and hose from back of fridge to it both frooze up.

Good day,
If the fill tube overfilled the ic maker and is iced itself, it is due to the water valve in the bottom rear leaking slightly after filling the ice maker during a normal cycle. The water valve will have to be replaced. However, it will take time and patience to get it thawed properly.
The ice maker should be removed and set aside to thaw out completely.
As well, the fill tube must be thawed out itself very carefully. Haste makes waste here. A hair dryer can be used but very sparingly since it's possible to start melting things you don't want melted.
Ideally the machine should be shut down but that's your call.
Once the new valve is installed and the machine reassembled it should be fine.

I have a Jenn-Air Refig with the freezer on the bottom. The ICE maker is not working and I think it might be frozen. How do I disconnect the ice maker so i can thaw it out?

Why not do a quick thaw and move the frozen goods over to the firdge for a few minutes and grab a blow dryer. This should give a temporary fix until you can pin point the problem. Be kind to me please with a Thumbs up. I am a long ways away and can only help a little. Raz

The line to our ice maker is frozen solid with ice. Do you know how to get the ice out of it? I'd prefer to not have to defrost the whole thing.

Pull the refrig out from the wall and you will see where the single tube to the ice maker goes . Try removing the line housing straight out the back , and thawing at the sink . Or , 2 screws hold the ice maker on . Remove the ice maker and thaw the line with a hair dryer . You will need to replace the water valve ( the piece the wall water line connects to on the refrig ) due to a seeping problem . When the valve does not close completely , drops will seep into the fill tube and freeze , thereby , blocking the normal rate of water , entering the ice maker .

The water filling the ice maker freezes in the filling tube.

You can thaw the frozen water with a hair dryer but to stop this from happening the water control valve may be the reason for this to happen. When the ice maker calls for water to refill it is timed. If the water control valve located on the rear of your refrigerator is not closing all the way for the ice maker side it causes the water to freeze in the tube because it slowly flow to the ice make just enough to seal the fill tube.
Thanks and let me know what you find, Sea Breeze

Ice maker won't fill

Check to see if the water tube is frozen that feeds the water to the ice maker. If so, you can take a hair dryer and thaw it out.
Also check and see when the ice maker is running that the water valve is activted to allow water to flow into the ice maker. Is the water supply line not getting water for some reason.

Leaking water on floor only happens when making ice

I wonder if you just notice the noise now because the leak has you more aware? First things first. Lift up the arm on the ice maker (a few hours prior to attempting service) to stop it's operation. You need to roll the unit forward to give you access to the back. You'll see a plastic tube that runs from the bottom compartment (water valve) to the ice maker fill tube. Lower the arm of the ice maker and observe the plastic tube for the location of the leak. The most likely spot would be at the top. A hose clamp can be put on the fill tube after making sure the plastic supply tube is completely inserted into the fill tube. The fill tube is the piece that goes through the rear bulkhead and delivers the water to the icemaker. It may be neccessary to remove the icemaker to thaw out the fill tube using a hair dryer.

Ice making feature not working

Most likely the ice fill tube has frozen up and will not allow the water to fill the ice maker. You will need to remove the icemaker (three small screws) and take a hair dryer and thaw out the fill tube. You can use a bent up coat hanger to reach in and remove some of the ice that is formed up in the tube as you thaw out the ice. Also check the Icemaker's actuator arm. This sometimes is hung up by a small piece of ice that hasn't dropped causing the Icemaker to shut off. (This is the first thing to check )

Ice maker isn't filling with water. Water is on and ice maker is on. It's been humid.

Likely that the water supply tube to the icemaker is frozen. It will be a white rubber tube on the right side of the icemaker. Warm it with a hair dryer, remove it from its aluminum tubing, and make sure there is no ice all the way back to where the supply tube comes from the water valve. After thawing, your icemaker should start working again.

Now..... why did it freeze? Most likely, there is a restricted airflow to the back of the unit, which is need to keep that aluminum supply tube just warm enough to assure all the water flow OUT of it into the icemaker, and doesn't freeze up on contact. Make sure your coils and the airspace under the fridge are completely clean (vacuuum them well) and it should cure the problem.

Hello, Check the water fill tube to see if it may be frozen. It's a tube about 3/8" wide that hangs over the tray. Squeeze the tube and if it is hard, it"s frozen, if it is soft, you have another problem. If it's hard, take a hair dryer and thaw out the tube and you ice maker should be fixed.
I hope this helps.

Kenmore Side by Side Refrigerator Ice Maker Not Working

A couple things to check here. First see if there is ice in the tray. If so chances are the ice maker will need to be replaced however these are very reliable ice makers. If no ice in the tray pull up on the ejector blade (don't worry you won't break it) turn clockwise to start the ice maker thru a cycle. The ejector blade is the long white bar with fingers on it that run the length of the tray. Once it completes a cycle it should fill with water. If no water then either the fill tube is frozen over and will need to be defrosted or the water valve is bad.
