Question about HP Compaq nc6000 Notebook

Screen will not power on

I changed out the keyboard on my Compaq nc6000 and when I attempted to boot my computer it turned on but there was no power to the screen. What could the problem be?

Try pluggin an external monitor to the laptop. If you see the screen then your filament ribbon might need repair or replace.

My HP nc6000 wont start when I press power button. Fan starts for a few seconds an then the orange led turns on, after that everythig turns off. AC an the battery is ok. Any idea? Thak you.


Hi,these particular brand of Hp series is very problematic,try checking the Ram out,its usually underneath the keyboard,so if you have two installed try using one at a time to boot system,if problem persist have an I.T Technician look at it.

Sounds like your display panel is bad or it's another symptom of a mother board flex problem at the Maxim chip

NC6000 starts to boot but then turns off, no lights or screen. I can hear the fan when the power is turned on?


On ac adapter and battery power,could be several things sounds like bad caps on the main board. Less expensive to replace the motherboard.

This is the service manual for your laptop....
If you hold down the Fn key....lower left on keyboard., and look at the top of the keyboard and look for the "F" key that has the symbol of the sun or a light on it, that is the "function" key and when you hold down the Fn key tap the appropriate function key and that changes the value of what you want.

check the smps it may be the problem or check your moniter by removing the data cable from the cpu for the OSD display

also check the ram

Unfortunately you have a system board issue. I've have seen this problem many times while I was repairing this unit. Sorry for giving you the bad news.
