Question about Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition

1 Answer

Yesterday, I was working on my computer, and I put it to sleep to go do something else, and when I tried to wake it up, the computer was totally unresponsive. The screen wouldn't turn on, and the cooling fan was running like crazy. I turned it off manually, and when I turned it on the next couple times, it showed a "RAM passed" error. Now it won't even turn on! what happened to it?

It almost sounds like the computer memory is the problem.
is this a laptop or desktop?
Do you know how to remove the memory modules?
If so, I would try and take then out then reinstall to make sure they are seated in the motherboard good. Sometimes it is as simple as that. Cant hurt to try.
Good Luck!

I work in an office and we are struggling with our monitors. They are Noc monitors and during use, the screens go totally blank and will not switch back on at all. I have tried to change desktop settings...

I have some ideas, and I will try my best to diagnose what is wrong. If the monitors are all shutting off at the same time that would indicate a possible virus telling the computers to turn the monitors off after a set time. If its a random thing throughout the day, It sounds like a bad batch of monitors and they are overheating as most devices have safeties to prevent them from burning up or catching fire.
Sleep mode is only for when the computer has been idle for a set time and it puts things on stand-by to save power. Usually moving the mouse or hitting a key on the keyboard wakes the PC up.
New idea, maybe the monitor drivers are out of date or have become corrupted. I hope something here helps.

I am running a model 1045 on VISTA. The sleep key puts my computer to sleep but what key wakes it up?

Hi there,

Normally when you put your computer to sleep with your keyboard you only have to press a key on the keyboard to wake the computer again.
I normally use my spacebar to wake my pc but any key should work fine.

Kind regards!!!

I'd suggest putting it in DFU mode

connect to PC or MAC

hold sleep/wake+Home button for 10 seconds

release sleep/wake but CONTINUE HOLDING HOME

after a while itunes will say it's detected an iphone in recovery mode. Restore from here.

Computer will not wake from sleep after virus sweep

USUALLY you cannot set your pc to wake up at a specific time..You can set it to wake up on ring (ethernet) but once the system is in sleep it takes a physical action on your part to wake it up.. sorry, it is just the way of the pc

Vista wakes up on it's own. Never goes to sleep.

Sounds like you've tried all the obvious things. Did you check the BIOS settings and turn off all of the WAKE ON settings in there? Otherwise, it sounds like you might have a third party program which is scheduling without your knowledge (check your start up programs and running processes during normal use). If, when asleep, the machine runs a fan, it may also be waking up for the OS to receive a power or overheat warning message from the BIOS.

Problems with machines not going to sleep when asked are often related to drivers that are not unloading when asked to prepare for the sleep/hibernation process. If you have installed any new hardware (or driver heavy software like specialized encryption or hard drive management stuff) trying uninstalling it and testing the sleep functionality.

Ideas, anyway.
