Question about LG Goldstar GWHD5000 wall/window Air Conditioner

Open Question

We have a GOLDSTAR, Model #WG1805RY6 that recently did a couple of different things and I don't know if the two are related. A few times, if set to low 70's or lower during the heat of the day, but in AC mode, the air felt like plain "fan" air. We also have had consecutive days with highs over 100, too, however. What I'm more concerned with, though, is the high pitched squealing noise we hear while AC is running lately. It's not constant. It goes in and out, with the volume fading in and out gradually with no apparent pattern. It squeals more than it's silent, however, and I will say that I haven't noticed these two problems happening at the same time. Should I be concerned about the noise (outside of the fact that it is annnoying)? Is it a sign of more trouble to come? Is there a way to fix this, or will I have to give in to the idea of buying a whole new unit?

SOURCE: sound problem

Is it a hissing sound ? If it is a hissing sound and you can smell ionized air (ozone) then there may be some high voltage leaks (corona discharge) in the High voltage supply coming from the flyback transformer. This happens when there is a path to ground because of dirt dust or spider web, or your surrounding is humid.

SOURCE: HEAT PUMP/AIR CONDITIONER UNIT SMELLS ONLY WHEN AIR IS ON

Not sure what the smell...smells like.  My guess is dirt or dust near the heating elements.  These will cause a burning smell.  Sometimes insects even get into the act..building webs.
You will have to clean that area out...sometimes a large blower or vac can dislodge the dust.

SOURCE: Unit constantly makes a clicking noise.

Electronic filters use static dicharges to filter the air. Unfortunately the make that clicking noise when they discharge. LG calls it a plasma filter. Clean both the regular and the plasma filter to see if that helps.

SOURCE: Goldstar Window A/C Unit Model GWHD5000

I recommend that if you have animal and you want to have the unit on all day that is fine if you have an ac unit with a thermostat and it is big enough to handle.  The unit that is in the window is ok if your home but it could cost alot if there is no thermostat because it will run and run and run.  Then if it don't cool the house enough means its not the right size.  The unit / compressor could overload and kick on and off and might not work when you get home and the house will be like a firecracker.   Best bet would be to replace it with a unit for the size needed for the apartment.  It would be effecient. if we can help further just let us know.

From one senior to another, I know what you mean. Don't know about Goldstar, sounds like an inexpensive brand. If your looking for a nice used machine, Amazon.com has some as low as $30
Mister Loaf Hb 211 Programmable Bread Maker for 1 1 1 2 and 2 pound...
and you could also look through Ebay. Here's a nice one with a starting bid of $20.
The Bread Machine Maker Welbilt Ultra Fast Cycle 28 Settings ABM1H70
For Ebay, do a search for "bread machine" and set the minimum (left side of page) for $20. Set the sort order for "price + shipping, lowest first"; to speed up the search.

Model#1051 small dorm size...doesn't matter where i set thermostat..it sill freezes everything,,,suggestions?

Repace thermostat. You didn't tell us that it runs ALL the time. It does. You don't have to tell me, I know it does. The first thing the power does is go thru the thermostat and its job is to turn the power off to the pump when it gets cold enough. If it gets cold and freezes everything then everything else is working right. There is no fixing the old thermostat either. That little tube that looks like a heavy bare wire ending next to the freezer coil has a little "freon" in it that expandes and contrectes with temp. change and the change in pressure is what ativates the thermostat. Chances are the "freon" leaked out.
Note, this is not the same "freon" that is pumped around the fridge to cool things. This is sealed in the thermostat and tube only.

I have cleaned and oiled the machine. Re threaded it several times, tried to adjust the dial in different directions, still to no avail --- the top thread shows up on the bottom of what I am sewing. ...

You need to fine-tune the tension. The instructions I'm going to give you will work with any sewing machine and can be repeated for any type of fabric you sew in the future where this happens. Use a scrap of the material you're sewing with that's a few inches long and a couple of inches wide. Also, it helps if you use different color threads in the top and the bobbin thread.

Thread your machine with the presser foot UP. The disks that control the tension (threadgoes through them) are tightened up if the foot is down. Change the machine tension with the presser foot DOWN.Because the disks won't be engaged (see above) if the foot is up, the diskswon't move. Start at the middle setting, 3. Go up to tighten, decrease toloosen. Each machine is different, even 2 different machines of the same model. The best thing to do is start at 3 and use a different color in the top andbobbin thread so you can easily see what changes to the tension do to yourstitches. Now use a straight stitch a sew 3 or so inches. Take a lookat the top and bottom of the fabric. You don't want to see any (or at least notmuch) of the other color showing from the other side. Loops on the bottom of the fabric means you need to tighten(increase) your top tension. If you're stitches on the bottom are causingpuckering, then you need to loosen you're top tension. For the most part, youreally don't want to touch your bobbin tension-leave that to a repairtechnician. The factory setting shouldn't be touched except by someone whoreally knows what they're doing. Keep sewing a few inches at a time until you have the resultsyou want. Now you're tension is where you need it!

I am having trouble with the tension on my machine. The material is very thin and I cannot get the correct tension.

Let me give you a basic lesson in tension setting that works on any machine. Work with a section of scrap from the material you're using that's a few inches long and at least a couple of inches wide so you have something to work with. I strongly suggest you thread the top of the machine with a different color thread than the bobbin so it's easy to see what needs to be done-this'll become clearer in the instructions that follow.

I have a Goldstar Dehumidifier, model # GHD30y7 (S No 611TADR26946). It has worked well for a couple seasons. This season it will not stay running. It cycles on but shuts off after a couple minutes. I have...

Kreston, check the humidity level you have it set on. It may be that there is not enough humidity in the air for what you have it set on and it automatically shuts OFF.

Keep in mind, whatever level (percentage) you have it set on, is what it will maintain, not remove.
For example - if you have it set on 65%, that's pretty high level of moisture/humidity. But, it's not how much it's going to remove from the household air. Unless, the humidity level rises above 65%. Then it will only remove enough to maintain 65%.

If you want to remove humidity/moisture, you have to lower the setting below 45 to 50%, Try that and I think you'll meet with success.

Hope this helped you. Please let me know. Thanks.

Goldstar MV1501W control pad not working

You have a failed membrane keypad.

If you (or someone you know) might want to replace it yourself, I have uploaded a handy guide with pictures showing you what's typically involved.

To order Goldstar / L.G. parts, visit Vance Baldwin Electronics. You'll probably have to call them.

If you would like to have us do this repair for you, we do that for $39.95 plus part costs.

Feel free to contact me directly (and please remind me of your model number) for more information & help.

Goldstar

The first thing to try is a "hard reset". Unplug it from the power line for a few minutes, plug it back in, set the clock, then try again.

Otherwise, you may have a failing keypad. It can fail due to age, moisture, etc.

PLEASE Let us know if the hard reset doesn't fix it.

We have the service manual available to us.

Says its ready till i try and print

Dell printer drivers try to 'phone home' with Ink usage stats .. even if you select 'no' when asked, they still try to access the Internet ..on install the driver modifies Microsoft Vista Firewall settings to permit this ...

So if you recently installed a non-Microsoft Firewall eg. ZomeAlarm your print driver will be denied access to the web and will refuse to print.

Note that 'deny' is different from 'time-out' ... to test turn off your wireless (or remove the ethernet cable) and ONLY THEN turn off your firewall - if it now starts printing you have your solution (go into Zone Alarm and Enable all Dell & MS print related software access to the Internet).

DO NOT browse the web with your Firewall turned off !!!!
