Fan in my Dell desktop PC runs at very high speeds from time to time

The fan in my Dell desktop runs very fast from time to time, and for no apparent reason. Is that an indicator it is getting ready to go out or something?

First check to make sure fan is pulling air out of computer instead of pushing it in,then pull blue wire out of 4-wire fan plug on mobo, then join this wire to black ground wire of 4- wire plug. plug connector back in mobo. power up computer ,problem solved.

Check your manual for instructions to see if CPU temperature monitoring is done in that system.
You may be able to view that actual operating temp. of your processor.
If that system is so equipt, then it is very possible that the fan speed is regulated by temperature and it will vary according to ambient and internal temperature to conserve a tiny bit of power.

If nothing else, you can block airflow into or out of the system box to see if the fan speed increases after a few minutes.
Blocking the exhaust in the back of the unit will probably be enough.

NOTE: DON"T walk away if you decide to experiment - you may fry some chips and those don't taste good at all!

Why fan operates in sleep mode Dell OptiPlex 780?

Possibly it is overheating, which would depend on how often it runs, and how fast. During startup, it is normal for a fan to run at high speed, but if it's on constantly in sleep mode, I would look towards an overheating problem. Open it up, check for, and clean any dust around the heatsink / fan, and power supply fan. Also make sure that outside the PC there is plenty of space to allow airflow.

Why is my dell optiplex GX260 CPU fan is very fast ?

Usually the fan regulates its own speed (or rather the BIOS does) in relation to the current heat, you may have heat/environmental issues, or power issues. However I would first check to see that the fan speed isn't statically(permanently) set to a high speed. You can check this in the BIOS, as the machine starts up it will flash a small message ( For Setup or For Setup, something like that), hit the stated button to enter your BIOS, under 'Thermal' or 'Hardware' you should be able to find fan speed.

My dell optiplex gx 620 system fan run so fast and produse a lot of noise when i play games or downloading data from net

Open up the computer and clean the dust out of the fan and processor heat sink. If it is a temperature-controlled variable speed fan, it will probably not have to work so hard to keep the processor cool.

If it is a fixed-speed fan, it may be getting loud because the bearings are wearing out. Gently try to rock the fan blade unit - it should not have any wobble or slop in the bearings, and it should rotate easily.

If necessary, clean as much dust as you can out of the power supply without taking it apart.

Do not use a regular vacuum cleaner to **** dust off the motherboard. The high-velocity airflow may generate electrostatic charges that can damage the board. It's probably OK to vacuum out the heat sink if you hold the fan still to keep the vacuum cleaner from over-speeding it.

1) Clean the fan. There must be a lot of dirt.
2)Check if the SMPS is working fine. Check it with a tester.
