Question about Denpa MP38 Voice Recorder

2 Answers

I have a machine that has been in use for a long time. The user has cleared all the files. She has replaced batteries. The screen display is: ***No Files *** Voice: 000/000 When we hit the button to REC/STOP the red light flashes and the device turns itself off and the back on to the same menu. What can we do to start recofding again

I think you missed the point. The problem is that when we hit the REC button the light flashes and then the recorder turns itself off and back on. So it is just recycling and not recording. Or must there be a mic plugged into it for it to record when not plugged into the phone.

I think you missed the point. When we try to record by hitting the REC button the red light flashes to record, but then the device cycles off and back on to the same spot. What can we do to fix that? Are you saying we must have it attached to the phone or have a mic attached for this to work? I am not the person who uses this, but I am sure that was tried. We are looking for where we should go now.

This is my third time trying to add a comment. After submitting it has not shown up,so I hope you do see this. I think you missed the point of the problem. The devise is powering on okay but when we push the button to REC the red light flashes on and then the device recycles off and back on. Are you suggesting that I must have a mic attached or have it attached to the phone? I know that the person who uses this device has used it for years and had everything properly attached but not working before she brought it to me. I want to know what I should do now so I can record.

Thank you, I am working on it now. When I started to look it says it only has 476 MB but I found that the .trashes folder has 475 MB because Check Flash will not run. I am verifying with the user that it is okay to wipe the .trashes folder and I will see what happens next. Because of your comments that I should have 900 MB and I only have 476 MB what can I do about the flash if it has to be be replaced. Actually I just looked on the back and see "512M" so I should be good. As I work more with it I will let you know.

  • richardwe808 Aug 27, 2010

I wiped the .trashes folder and the Check Flash program is working properly now. That file had taken up all available space so there was no way to test. It is about 50% through the test now. I expect it to finish properly and I will then accept this as the solution. Thanks very much.

  • richardwe808 Aug 27, 2010

My DENPA MP-38 voice recorder would not work at all. Following the suggestions I found out that even though there were no files found, there was a trashes folder that was so full there was no space left over. I emptied the folder and the device worked. I ran the program suggest to Check Flash and it found everything in working order. That is a great solution that saved me a lot of time in trial and error.

Well it sounds as if the flash memory on the unit has gone bad. But lets see if it we cant fix it first.

  1. first plug the unit into your computer as you would regularly do.
  2. Now navigate to my computer.
  3. once in my computer right click on the device and hit properties.
  4. Once inside properties make sure the device is displaying the correct amount of space.
  5. If it says something like 50mb's or less than 900mb's the flash memory is damaged.
ok after you have confirmed that all the memory is there. Download the software check flash by clicking here
  1. To commence testing, run check flash. Select the voice recorder drive (this will be the same as the one you checked in properties) concerned in the ‘Drive’ combination field. Retain the ‘Use temporary file’ as the ‘Access type’ settings. Only the ‘Write and read test’ action is available for this type.
2. Also leave the ‘Small pattern set’ option as it is. Thus configuring, a complete test cycle consists of two test runs with different data. This is sufficient for a flash device.
3. If you want to do a thorough check, select ‘Full pattern set’. The tool then conducts 18 test runs for every single bit to check its functioning but this takes quite some time. To start the same, click ‘Start’ and wait for the analysis to complete.
Now after check flash has ran it will either tell you if there were errors or if the device checked out and is perfectly fine. If it is fine then you can try to reformat the device.
Before attempting a reformat you need to make sure there are no system files that will be deleted to do that you need to enable show hidden files or folders. to do that follow the steps in this video
once you are able to see hidden folders open the voice recorder and make sure there is not a hidden folder with a pmp_usb.ini file or anything like that they generally have a faded icon to let you know if its a hidden folder. if there is a folder copy and paste it to the desktop Do not cut it.
Once you have done that and made sure there isnt a usb.ini file on the device or anything and check flash said there are errors you can attempt to format the device. Make sure before you format the voice recorder click on properties again and see if the device is fat32 or ntfs. below are the steps to format the device

  • 1
Open up 'My Computer'. You should see it under the list of available drives.
  • 2 Check its contents first to make sure that you have the right drive.
  • 3 In 'My Computer', right-click on the drive and choose 'Format'.
  • 4 Leave all the options as they are and click on 'Start'. This is a non-reversible process so make sure this is what you truly wanted to do in the first place.
  • 5 Once the process is completed, Try to browse to it to make sure it works fine now.

  • now if it you have done all this and you formatted the device giving it a fresh start and check flash verified that there is no damage to the flash memory. You can try the device to see if it will record. If it doesn't there could be a few reasons why the ma-7 processor chip inside the unit is no longer functioning correctly and get a error when trying to record. Now if you have any idea how to solder i might be able to find you a replacement that you could attempt to solder in. But at the price of the unit i see on ebay it seems this wouldn't really be cost effective or worth the time and it would be more effective to replace the unit.. Only reason i say that is you say you have used it or a long time which means its most likely not under warranty. If you need any explanation on the steps above or require further assistance on how to go about finding the smaf chip inside of the device please let me know and i can assist you further. Thanks-Midwest-tek

yes please do, I didnt know if it was the 512mb or 1gb model so you would be correct to assume that is the right size. Now you said you cant get check flash to run what operating system are you using. Just wondering cause i will find a flash memory verification software to ensure that the memory is still in working order. As even though it may say it has the memory if all the sectors are bad or unreadable then that number doesnt mean much. But please let me know as i am here to assist you and will be glad to help you try to get this but in some cases the unit just may no longer work. An because of the manufacturer there isnt much hope in getting it repaired. But you may be able to repair it yourself as i said i read online it looks like it has a ma-7 wholesale audio processor. So it can be purchased. An actually looking i cant even find a ma-7 so in the meantime im going to call some distributors and see if i can locate one as that is a chip they may not make so much anymore. But i will see if i can locate one if you should choose that route. So let me know how it goes and keep me updated. Thanks- Midwest-tek

    Hi

Simply plug the adaptor into ANY phone jack in the house and record both sides of the conversation on all the phones that use that specific line from the one location. No beeps, clicks, or any noise will be heard whatsoever. Activate 'voice activation' mode and the Denpa will only record when the phone is in use.
Let us know if you have something more to ask else please accept the solution.

Hi My dad is currently away on holiday and he has a Canon IXUS Z70 Camera which has a H in the screen. Can this be cleared or does it need to be replaced? Thanks

Your dad's camera has a self-diagnosis feature when it powers up. If a fault is detected, then the letter H appears on the LCD display panel on top of the camera.

The user manual for the IXUS Z70 says on page 55 that under such circumstances the user must remove the battery from the camera and wait for the H to disappear before refitting the battery.

If this does not solve the problem then the camera is effectively scrap. It's an obsolete APS film camera and spares are no longer available.

Hopefully, your dad will be able to clear that H with just a simple battery reset, but if not then I still hope that my posting will save him from wasting further time on the problem.

Please don't forget to take a moment to rate my answer.
