Question about General Heating & Cooling

I do have this problem.on one rad. 1 rad , just the top half part hot, lower half of the rad cold ,I have bled the whole system ,other rads fine except this one?

Hi shut of rad both ends drain rad of water , remove red to outside flush red water from garden hose put red on its top then flush out water should be black flush to water is clear put back red refill air out should work now

GETS HOT IN 3 MILES OR LESS DRIVING


Its not the expansion tank you need to look at. Open the radiator cap when the engine is cold. Coolant should be right at the top. Was all the air bled from the system when these components were replaced? If the system has air in it, it will not effectively cool. Was the thermostat installed correctly? ( Put in backwards ). Electric rad fan? Is it operational?

Why is the coolant overflowing when the temp guage gets half way?


well the tank must never be full, when engine is cold
was it? (read operators guide to see methods)
water expands hot, and the tank captures this expansion
that is normal.
what does "until its all gone", mean, what is IT?
there are lots of tests.
the first one, is,
IS the engine overheating,?
try a new rad cap, they are dirt cheap.
and, is the oil or carbon in the RAD neck, cap off , cold engine>?
is there water in the engine oil, milky dip stick end?
same with A/T trans? milk, or pink/red ATF.
is there steam going out the tip of the exhaust pipe on a fully hot engine>? yes/no?
is air and water exploding in to the side expansion tank.?

cold engine
remove rad cap'
fill rad with 50% AF.
new cap back on.
put 50% AF 1/2 way up in to expansion tank(its marked clearly)
start engine , does it overflow now>?

Be sure that cooling system has been bled properly after . Start engine while cold with cap off, and heater on. Let engine get up to normal operating temperature and allow thermostat to open and close 2 or 3 times and rev engine slightly once in a while for 5 seconds or so to help improve flow. If you have rad where you can actually look in and see flow, that's better otherwise watch coolant return bottle and temperature gauge. Feel if any difference at heater as you bleed air out. Once you start to feel better /good heat, then it should be bled properly, then top up coolant return bottle and re-install cap properly. Let me know if that helps.

Running hot think it is air locked how do you bleed air from it


Loosen the cap on the rad and run the engine up to operating temperature. Make sure the rad is full, and go for a short drive around the block to warm up the engine. Make sure the heater is turned on high and the fan running full. There will likely be some burping and gurgling going on as the air gets forced out. Keep checking and topping up the rad. Eventually it will stop.You should run it for acouple days with the cap loose to be sure all the air is out. After that, make sure the rad is full, close the cap and top up the overflow bucket.

We had no heat in rads downstairs we changed pump and flushed system no we have heat downstairs but not up any ideas?


Make sure the air is bled from the upstairs rads.
[air = top of rad is cold & bottom hot]

If you need to balance the rads to maintain an even flow through all then :-
Turn off all rads [one valve fully open and the other closed] Get heat going and open each rad valve, in turn, about 1 or 2 turns. Start with upstairs. The position you need to get to is when the return pipe fron each rad is a few degrees below the flow pipe. Adjust each rad valve to get this effect a few times may be necessary

We had to drain down the central heating system due to repairs,we fix repair and flushed out the system,we refilled and vented from the lowest to highest rads, vented pump ,top rad heated,next two rads...


Just fill it up until the water reaches to the highest rads.
With the system running, try venting out the vacuum on
the rads starting from the lowest to the highest until
the warm water will be felt from each rad. Just send your e-mail comments and God bless you.

1994 Honda Civic LX\overheating within 2 mile drive


Remove and raise upper hose at thermostat end and remove lower rad hose.
Fill rad with a hose and watch for flow from bottom rad hose and/ or bottom rad hose connecton.......water should fall though rad easily.
Honda rads are cheap.....any restriction....replace rad.

Remove thermostat....fill thermostat housing with hose and watch for water flow at bottom rad hose.
Flush good.

Remove heater hoses.......flush back and forth until a good flow is present "With heater control set to hot" if no or poor flow....replace heater core.

Stop leak can plug everything.

Also.......not likely causing over heating....but ....at your mileage,if you do not know if the timing belt has been changed.....CHANGE IT NOW!
Water pump is optional at this mileage.

I think i have a air lock in the rad of my bmw520i


sounds more like a possible heater core issue the heater core is what heats your car by the fan blowing over it and through tour vents ! find the 2 hoses that come out of your firewall on the back side of the engine compartment . run vehicle for 10 to 15 min and see if both of the hoses are hot if one is hot and one is cold heater core is plugged. if both hot have a diff problem. start hear first !!

RAds don't get hot anymore


rads not heating could be down to old system ie pipework etc and sludge building up. r there any cold spots on rads? when boiler turning off do u mean going to reset? if so could be over heat prob at boiler . there should be a pressure pipe coming from boiler going to outside if its a combi. if this is leaking your expansion vessel might need re charged as this is where the water will be going.
