Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I just was given an old Dell Latitude D810 at work. The battery seems good. When I disconnect the A/C power adapter from the computer the screen goes blank (a little back-lighting can be seen and gets dimmer when the keyboard keys used to adjust brightness). Plugging it back in does not restore the video. Only a power off and reboot restores the screen. Consistently, when the laptop is not plugged and the PC is started it goes past the Windows XP start up and as soon as it starts to bring up the Windows GUI shell it goes blank.

I thought about that too and I'll give that a try. But the battery has an LED condition indicator and when removed and pressed I get 5 of 5 lights, indicating the battery is good. It is possible the battery isn't testing under load but I would think they would have limplemented the tester better.

I'll try to find another battery as that is a good suggestion.

    Thanx...

Hi
Can you not try and get another battery from work to see if it remedies the issue. It seems like the screen doesn't get enough power when not plugged in.

I have the same problem. I replaced battery, replaced hard disk and reinstalled system but problem still exists. Disconnecting power cable causes black screen and only reboot can bring back computer to life. Funny is, when I run system from CD and AC power adapter is disconnected, laptop works without any problems on battery. I'm still looking for solution. Please suggest something.

My Dell Latitude D810 won't even start up. All I have is the bluetooth light. Can you please help?

1. Take the battery out of the laptop & try to turn on the laptop using power adapter only. If the computer turns on, then the battery is defective & needs to be replaced.
2. Make sure the power adapter is not defective. Test the output voltage of the power adapter using a voltmeter. Compare the voltmeter reading to the nominal value written on the adapter or the laptop.
3. Make sure the DC jack is not loose or broken. A loose DC jack will need to be re-soldered. A broken one will need to be replaced.
4. If you have another processor which is compatible with your laptop's model, try swapping processors & test to see if the laptop will work.
5. The power button could be bad.
6. The motherboard could be defective & needs to be replaced.

Dell d810 will not power on

You said you tried another power cord, but what about another power adapter? Try jiggling the cord around and manipulating it back and forth a little and see if the led on your computer lights up. This type of problem is usually the power adapter and/or cord. What about your battery - does it boot with your battery?

My dell D810 won't power up. After pushing the power button, one LED light comes on. About 5 seconds later, that LED light goes off. I swapped power adapters and symptoms remain the same. The battery is...

Please try the following troubleshooting steps:

1 Disconnect the battery and the charger
2 Let it sit for 1-2 minutes.
3 Press and hold down the power button for 30 seconds.
4 Connect the charger (don't connect the battery yet) and try to start by pressing the power button.

Let me know if everything remain same.

Have a Dell D810. Battery at 75% charge. When I

Get a 90w adapter is the only resolution. The D810 on a 65w adapter will:
  1. Disable the battery charger
  2. Run slower due to throttling
The 65w adapter MAY charge the battery if the computer is not running (Not sure on that)

D810 system password cannot program system or assess bios

Disconnect the battery, unplug it, then open it up. There should be a small round battery called the CMOS battery somewhere in there. Pull that out. Then plug your computer in and boot it up without the CMOS battery. It should say password disabled. Turn it off, disconnect it, put it back together, and you're good to go.
