Can I make a small freezer work as a refrigerator

Yes, you will need to replace the thermostat control to a refrigerator control. There are two types. I like the one that monitors the temperature in the evaporator. It has a sensor line a couple of feet long and is small enough to weave it inside the fins of the evaporator and typically has a setting of 5 to get it to control the temperature inside the case at a temperature of 37 degrees. The other type has a short sensor and monitors the temperature in the air around the evaporator. The former is typically less expensive.
Hope this helps

How do I set my settings for the frig and freezer?

Hi friend, thank you for your inquiry!

I understand that you are having difficulty with the temperature settings on your Frigidaire refrigerator. Depending on your refrigerator style on a top mount there should be a cold control on the inside of the fresh food side that would be used to adjust your temperature. On a side by side or French door bottom mount the temperature control is located on the front control panel. Typically, as a "+" or "-" symbol to adjust the temperature. If any adjustments are made to the temperature, please allow 24 hours for the temperature to set properly. I hope this information has been helpful. -Matt

For a side by side what do I set the tempt.

Hi Bonnie, that's a great question!

The recommended factory temperature setting is 0?F for the freezer compartment and 37?F for the refrigerator side. Typically, the temperature can be adjusted to the desired setting by pressing the DOWN and UP indicators located beside the displayed temperatures. You can always refer to your Owner's Manual for further specifics on the settings of your refrigerator. Hope this proves to be helpful! - Z

Panel states HI for Freezer

Hello Sherra, thank you for your post! Typically error code HI indicates that the refrigerator has detected high temperature in freezer. Generally speaking, the recommended factory setting is to be set at 0 for the freezer temperature and 37 for the fresh food temperature. You may try resetting the refrigerator by either unplugging it or flipping the household circuit breaker to the off position. Wait roughly ten minutes and then turn the appliance on. Set the temperature to a lower setting and please allow 24 hours for the temperature to stabilize. The refrigerator should then resume to normal operations. I ask that you please follow up with a comment on the post, at your convenience to advise if further troubleshooting is needed or if the unit's status has changed successfully. Thank you.

Bought a brand new LG bottom freezer fridge a couple of months ago. I like the refridgerator part to be cold, so we keep the fridge temp on 6 (1-7 are temp choices. 7 being the coldest). We had the freezer...

If designed as most combination units, one of the two controls influences the temperature directly, the other only determines how much of the generated cold air is allowed to enter the other compartment. The typical arrangement is that setting the freezer temperature determines how often often the compressor runs; the other diverts a portion of the cold air into the refrigerator side.
Using the common thermometer for cold temperatures (~$5 US), adjust the freezer temperature for 0 to -5 degrees F (the often recommended temp.), then the other control for the desired refrigerator temperature, suggested as 35-45 F. This is the most common practice.
If you cannot balance them the way you want, reverse the procedure, setting for refrigerator temp., then freezer.

How to set a temperture

Hello,

By keep your refrigerator or freezer too cold, it unnecessarily wastes electricity. The recommended temperature is 37 to 40 degrees for the fresh food compartment of the refrigerator. The recommended temperature for the freezer compartment is 5 degrees. If you have a separate freezer for long-term food storage, it should kept at 0 to -5 degrees.

The following steps below is how to set the temperature of your refrigerator.

The first thing you must know is that your refrigerator should be set at 37-38 degrees. Anything at 40 or higher and you are risking food born illness (food poisoning) or spoiling your food.

Step 2
Place your magnetic thermometer in the refrigerator.

Step 3
Set your dial on your refrigerator to the second lowest setting. (If your refrigerator is already equipped with a digital thermostat, simply set it for 37 or 38 degrees and do not move on to the next step)

Step 4
After 2 hours, check your thermometer reading. If your reading is 38 degrees, there is no need to go higher and you are ready to put your groceries in. Be sure not to open and close your refrigerator during these two hours or your temperature reading will be incorrect.

If your reading is higher than 38 degrees, move your dial up to the next coldest setting and repeat the steps every two hours until you reach the correct temperature for your refrigerator.

Step 5
Once you have reached the correct refrigeration temperature for your refrigerator, place the magnetic thermometer in the refrigerator permanently and watch for changes.

Typically, your refrigerator temperature will need to be adjusted with the seasons, a higher setting in the summer and a lower setting in the winter.

Hope this helpout and take care.

Variance in freezer compartment temperature

How to check everything
http://www.acmehowto.com/howto/appliance/refrigerator/refrigerator.php
If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.

check defrost heater, defrost thermostat. If the heater and thermostat are ok it’ll be the control board.
