Make sure you are using lithium batteries - as NiCd batteries do not hold the charge long in electronic devices with big current draws.

It wont turn on i even bought a new batery and still nothing what could it be?

Is your new battery charged? You may need to place it in the charger or hook the camera to the AC power and leave it overnight. If you have a charging cradle try to charge the battery that way. Sometimes that arrive dead.

My camera seems to be drawing energy from the batteries even when it is off because when I put brand new betteries in, within 72 hours they appear dead. I have the Canon SX10 IS. The camera is 10 months...

I have had the same issue. However, it is not draining the batteries, it is telling you the batteries are low even though they are not.
Sorry I don't have an answer though. I have checked batteries after the camera told me they were low/unusable and found them to be fine.

Make sure you are using Lithium batteries. Alkaline batteries will go dead immediately in this camera. I've tried it.

I keep getting "Battery Exhausted" messages, with new batteries

you have to use only very good quality batteries ...I have a philips..and if I do not put alcaline quality bateries in it ..it do not even power up ....and even with this expensive ones it eats 'em like snacks...
by the way ...keep the batteries inside only when you shoot cause all this new cameras with display and so ...consumes the batteries even when they are powered off ..
my advise is to buy some accumulators the kind you charge on the home power plug.....so in this way .. you will always have strong power into them ..and the cost its worthily ..

Canon powershot doesnt work at all now!

Most probably weak batteries (this can happen even if new batteries are used). Recommend rechargeable NiMH batteries for the A400. See the following:

S5000 just turns off

I guess it is tired! Seriously though this can be anything from a worn on/off switch - retreats back to off. to an incipient circuit board failure. Any attempt to repair will be the price of a new camera- so that is the thing to do, Then take the old one apart and find you could have fixed it with a hair pin anyways

Camera says brand new batteries are dead, then shuts down

It is possible that the batteries are dead (they might be faulty or too old) even when they are out of the package, though unlikely. Try another set of batteries, and if these don't work, you'll probably have to send it for a checkup.
