Hi! Pleae try running a cd lens cleaner for the optical drive may be dirty causing it to fail on reading cds. If it still doesn't work, I believe that the dvd drive itself is faulty and needs replacement. Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa!

Thanks for using FixYa. It seems that the lens is unable to read discs. To start with try running a lens cleaning disc, if that does not work then you have to open the unit and clean the lens with a Q-tip dipped in alcohol. If still the issue is not resolved then the lens should be replaced however, replacing a lens will cost you around $75 and a new one will cost you around $50. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.
