Question about Oreck Vacuums

1 Answer

My Oreck vacuum cleaner will only stay on in the upright position. If I try to recline it to vacuum, it shuts off...put it back up and it turns back on. Of course I can't vacuum in the upright position...what do I do?

It sound as if you have a short in the cord or it has come loose from the motor you can take it part by removing the four screws in the buttom of the base plate to see if any of the wires are loose.

The brush wont turn what do I do the one on the bottom

Hi Jim, it's Jack at Dyson.

DC25's brush bar is engineered to shut off for protection if something jams it. Once you've checked the cleaner head for any obstructions, and removed any threads or hair from around the brush bar and end cap, you should be able to reset your machine. Our video guide will walk you through each step:

The brush bar will never rotate when the vacuum's standing upright, so make sure you recline it into the normal vacuuming position before testing it. With the vacuum turned on and reclined, press the silver brush control switch twice, and you should find the brush bar will work again as normal.

How to put the Dyson Vacuum Cleaner out of the upright position?

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

To recline your DC33 into the normal vacuuming position, place one foot on the cleaner held and recline the main body. After use, just stand the vacuum upright and it will lock in position until you recline it again.

The bare floor/carpet switch moves on it's own from bare floor to carpet all the time.

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC07. When you have your brush control set to 'Carpets', the brushbar should run when the cleaner is reclined into the vacuuming position, and shut off when you stand the cleaner upright. When you have the brush control set to 'Hard floors', it should remain in the off position until you change it manually back to 'Carpets'.

If it won't stay in the 'Hard floors' position during use, it's probably best if you get in touch with us directly so we can determine if there's a fault, and recommend the best course of action. You can call us free on 08002980298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US). We'll look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards,

Jack

Used machine to vaccuum upstairs. when I stood it back upright and brought it downstairs it refuses to unfold to vacuum again

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC17. The cleaner should recline into the vacuuming position easily when you place one foot on the cleaner head, and tilt the handle back. If it doesn't seem to be doing this, it might be worth using a little more force than usual, in case the upright lock has jammed. If it still won't recline, or if you're unwilling to try this, it's probably best if you get in touch with us directly so we can help you resolve this as quickly as possible.

You can call us free on 1866MYDYSON - one of our experts will be happy to provide the assistance you need.

Kind regards,

Jack

The control arm spring in the front of the head unit wont stay in when i push the red thing on back to start vacumming!! help!!

Hi there,

If you're referring to the locking arm, which holds the cleaner head in position when the cleaner is standing upright, I can reassure you that it's designed to disengage when you recline the cleaner into the vacuuming position. By doing so, it allows the cleaner head to pivot freely as you steer the machine around obstacles, maintaining close contact with the floor surface for optimum performance.

However, if this is not the component you're referring to, it's probably best if you get in touch with us directly. One of our experts will be happy to run through some troubleshooting over the phone with you, and recommend the best course of action. You can call us free on 08002980298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US).

Hi there,

Sorry to hear you're having a problem with your DC14 Animal. You should find the cleaner reclines freely into the vacuuming position when you place a foot on the cleaner head, and lower the handle. If it's not doing this, please get in touch with us free on 08002980298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US), so we can provide the assistance you need.

My vacuum will not engage to unlock to vacuum. I turn the vacuum on - that works fine. I put my foot on the part to make it so I can vacuum and it will not unlock. What could be the problem. SOO...

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC28. The cleaner should recline easily into the vacuuming position when one foot is placed on the cleaner head, and the handle is lowered. If it's not doing this, check the clear U-bend at the rear of the machine for obstructions, as a blockage here could jam the valve carriage, making the cleaner difficult to recline. For guidance on doing this, please see the link to our Support page below:

http://www.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=1236&product=DC28-ANIMAL

After removing any blockages from the U-bend, stand the cleaner upright, and try reclining it again. It might be worth using a little more force than usual, in case the upright lock mechanism has jammed. If this doesn't help, or if you're reluctant to try this, it's probably best if you get in touch with us directly. One of our experts will be happy to run through some troubleshooting over the phone with you, and provide further assistance. You can call us free on 1866MYDYSON - or if you email your details to askdysonUS@dyson.com, someone will be in contact as soon as possible.
