CRT monitor screen is out of focus.text and other images looks blurry

Hi,

This kind of symptoms can be correct by the focus adjustment at the flyback transformer. FBT mostly has two control knob (Focus and Screen), focus is usually at the top one like in the sample picture below.

jdvillanueva_86.jpg

Open the back cover of your unit and then locate the FBT. Power on the unit and try to adjust the focus knob.

If the symptoms can't be cured by the this step, this is an indication that the CRT socket is already faulty. You have to replaced this parts and then make some adjustment at the focus knob of the FBT and your unit will back to normal again.

Hope I helped you.

My acer montior turns on fine, screen appears fine for a couple seconds, then blinks pinkish in colour and shuts off. This is a desktop computer monitor.

Pinkish glow can be sign of bad lamps, which will not be worth fixing.
If you are going to DIY and already try the monitor with another PC, and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on:
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply (they should be replaced in a set), blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed ACER monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

Hi,

All CRT type monitors have an FBT that supplies the high voltage to the tube. Additionally, it also supplies the G2 voltage that is responsible for the screen voltage. Often the adjustment for the Screen/G2 requires a bit of tweaking after some time of usage. Incidentally, there is another adjustment in the same area for the Focus control. Of course, adjustment would have to be done on a "live set" and on the high voltage section, extreme caution must be exercised when performing this operation.

In some extreme cases, it could be a cold solder or loose connection in the squarish PCB at the very rear of the tube. Alternately, it is also possible for a capacitor that is nearing end of life (dried up).

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

Monitor red colour problem

Hi,

i am assuming that the glass you are referring to is the glass capsule of a neon lamp. They are normally installed to serve as high voltage flash suppressor, a safety feature. Not unless it is shorted, then the unit would still work.

It is no uncommon for the power pack IC to simply have cold solder. Re-applying a heated soldering iron with a dab of soldering lead might just do the trick. Another possibility to consider is that the cable might be defective (specifically the wire for the red).

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.
