OK, what happens if you move the screen itself while it switches to black?

If the screen returns to the normal view, it might just be a bad connection.

All you need to do is to open up the unit and make sure that the connection cable connecting the motherboard to the screen is plugged in correctly.

If you do not feel comfortable doing this yourself, you will need to take your computer to your nearest computer repair store, they will be able to do this free of charge.

Hope this can be of help.

Kind regards

My screen is getting more and more difficult to set at an angle that screen becomes visible. What part needs replacement

Assuming your talking about a laptop screen, the screen is often one unit and is accessible by dismantling the bezel at the top of the laptop keyboard (Following manufacturers disassembly guidelines), disconnect antenna's and cables from the screen, unscrewing the screen mounts and detaching it. Only after its detached can you remove the bezel around the screen and replace it. Expect to pay around $100 for a replacement screen.

Start up . Black screen.

What OS? Have you tried F8 at boot to enter safe mode? Can you actually boot windows ok?
Here is a link to HP support options.
I would begin by running chkdsk c: /r from the recovery console (or from windows if you can get it to run.) (instructions here & here)
Then use MBAM to scan for malware.(guide here.) and remove anything it finds.
If no joy, run sfc /scannow and see if that helps. (instructions here)
If that doesn't help, try uninstalling and reinstalling your Internet Explorer. See here for info about the shdocvw.dll file.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.

Have you run an on line virus scan such as Bit defender, it is free and I came cross this once before and it was a virus that the up to date anti virus in residence had missed. Its worth a try, good luck

Starting up programs affects screen visibility

This would almost have to be a video driver problem. Try the WIndows default video drivers for some common settings (like 1024x768) and reboot and see if this fixes it. If it does, the problem is video drivers - download the latest from the web and install them.

If this doesn't fix it, try reinstalling the latest version of DirectX. Also, try stepping down VIDEO HARDWARE ACCELERATION through the video settings display panel. Finally, if it really only does it when you run a new program, as a last resort, you can try to reinstall the operating system from scratch and install the latest drivers from the laptop manufacturer.

Good luck...
