No your motor is going bad. Have you ever owned an electric fan. If you can remember when the motor started going bad on it the fan would quit turning on its own.Your vacuum is doing the same thing. Please call Hoover and order a new one or go to ebay type in the make and model..

Shuts off while vacuuming. Seems to be overheating, no smell though, and will turn back on after sitting for awhile.

Amy,
Check and make sure that all of your filters are clean. I forget exactly how many filters are on the DC24, but I know that there are at least two and it sounds like at least one of them may be clogged and not letting enough air to get through to keep the motor cool.

Reset switch

There is no reset button it as a Thermal Cut Off

This vacuum cleaner has a special thermostat that protects the cleaner in case of motor overheating. If the cleaner suddenly

shuts off, turn the switch off and unplug the cleaner.

Check the cleaner for a possible source of overheating such as a blocked hose or clogged filters. If these conditions are found, fix

them and wait at least 30 minutes before attempting to use the cleaner. After the 30-minute period, plug the cleaner back in and

turn on the switch. If the cleaner still does not run, then call 1-800-282-2886 for customer assistance

Hoover Mach 5 turns off after 5 minutes of using. Can you advise the problem?

5 minutes everytime? If so, raise brush all the way, and vacuum next to nothing. in fact, tilt vac up so the brush touches nothing. wait 5 minutes. If it doesn't shut off, your brush is set too high. if it does, the motor is over heating. make sure bag is empty, no debris in brush, filters clean and make sure you're not plugged into an outlet that a breaker on the outlet can pop too.

My Hoover Windtunnel supreme shuts off when I'm vacuuming. The bag isn't full, so I know that isn't the issue. Any ideas?

Normally, if the unit shuts off by itself, it is overheating. There is a overheat protection device wired in to the cleaner. Check to assure there is airflow thru the cleaner, to the bag.

Mach 6 shuts off

If the vac shuts off and then turns back on after waiting a while. could be a thermal fuse. it is in the motor compartment. recommend a pro shop service this issue.

Vacuum cleaner shuts off after short use. What's the reason. Motor seems very hot.

Almost all vacuum cleaners have a thermal cut-out, which operates when the machine gets too hot. It resets automatically when it cools down. Overheating is almost always caused by a blockage. Either the filters need cleaning or changing, or there's an obstruction somewhere in the pipe-work. Make sure all the pipes are clear so there's good air flow and you should be back in business. If the problem persists there may be trouble with the motor itself, in which case you'll need professional help (or a new machine). Good luck!

Mach 5 hoover turns off

Just got a solution off another website. There is a pre motor filter about the dust collection container. I opened mine and it was very dirty. I washed the filter and you are supposed to let it dry out for 24 hours. Hopefully this will work. Another guy said it worked for him.
