You might be missing the inner flange that goes behind the blade. You didnt specify what brand so for most saws there is a spindle lock depress that to stop the shaft from rotating, make sure the flange and possibly a spacer washer (might go behind the flange) are in place, install the blade with the teeth in the direction of the shaft rotation, install the outer flange and hex not or bolt that holds it tight, release the spindle lock and turn the blade by hand. Put a blade in it. It likely will release when the blade is inserted all the way.

Circular saw locking bolt turns spindle

There is a button on the saw that holds the shaft still. Unplug the saw and put light pressure on this button while you slowly turn thr blade by hand. When it gets to the hole, the button will drop into the shaft. Keep it pressed down and unbolt the nut.

Lost my manual for my 7 1/4 inch circular saw with laser light. Can you simply tell me how to tighten the blade? Thanks Jean

Hi Jean,
Unplug the saw.
# 1: First look for a blade break mine is at the front of the saw.
# 2: Some blades have a hole for a nail.Turn the saw blade down so that you can put a nail through so it catches on the body or Gard when you turn the wrench.
# 3: Use a nail in the gullet : curved space in front of the tooth (o<----nail 9k=to loosen just move the nail to the right side of the blade. My saw doesn't call for total tightening so it wont hurt the motor if it hangs up.If your saw blade has any blue spots it's dull and you need a new one.Thank You for choosing FixYa.com----Darryel

I inherited a very old Fury F-7 circular saw from my Dad. It uses a 7-1/4 diameter saw blade. This is sorta-kinda embarrassing, but for the life of me I cannot figure out how to lock the shaft to replace...

Most times when I need to change a blade on my 7 1/4" saw I simply grab the blade on the front side, below the saw's support table, with a pair of channel lock pliers and then use the box end wrench on the blade nut, pushing down from the back side of the saw blade. That should loosen the nut so you can take it out with your fingers. The reverse of this procedure should tighten the nut on a new blade.
I'm not real familiar with the Fury saw, but if it requires saw blades with the diamond shaped cut-out in the center, most of the older blades had a knockout that will fit the diamond shape it would need.

Cannot tighten blade on old craftsman circular saw.bolt turns blade shaft and motor without tighting blade

Is the washer/spacer in the blade too thick and you are perhaps tightening up on that instead of the blade. Also check the threads on the bolt, see if the bolt turns all the way in without the blade in position. It may be jamming up before gripping the blade.

Blade needs changing. nut is hard to get at

With the saw unplugged, retract the guard with the base plate extended so there is minimum teeth showing below. Place the blade of your saw on your wood top workbench. Press it down. Using the wrench that came with the saw or other appropriate size box or open end wrench or socket, turn the nut backward (this is a left hand thread not standard right hand thread). It will be tight.

Alternatively, there may be a shaft lock that you can press to lock the shaft to facilitate unbolting the blade.

Alternatively, there mau be a small hole in the blade. Insert a phillips screw driver in the hole to facilitate blade removal.

Key is knowing the thread is backward to what you expect. The reason for this is to cayse the nut to tighten as you turn on the saw, not loosen.

When you put on the new blade, make sure the nut is properly secured.

I hope this is clear for you.

How do i change the blade on my delta 10" mitre saw

Exploded diagram for your SM100M miter saw is here.
User manual is here.

Page 20 covers blade change operation.

Make sure you unplug your saw! You need to remove a screw from the cover and rotate the cover to the rear. Use a hex wrench in the motor shaft to keep the saw blade from turning, and loosen the arbor nut with a 1/2" wrench. The arbor is reverse threaded, so you'll turn it clockwise to loosen, then counterclockwise to tighten it up after you have swapped the blade.
Rotate the cover back after that's done, and replace the screw.

If this was useful, please vote. Thanks.

Can not remove the old blade

1. Unplug the saw.
2. Locate the blade lock button used to lock the motor shaft when changing a blade. For your saw, this button is usually located on the left side of the blade guard somewhere around the motor housing.
3. Push the button while rotating the blade until the button engages and the blade will no longer turn.
4. Use the wrench that came with the saw (or another wrench) to loosen and remove the blade bolt. For your saw the bolt should have standard right hand threads which means you loosen the bolt by turning it counter clock-wise.
5. Remove the old blade and replace it with a new blade of the same mounting type. Some blades have a round through hole and some blades have a diamond through hole.
6. Re-install the blade bolt and tighten clock-wise while holding the blade lock button down.
