If you've recently re-installed the operating system, then you may not have the drivers installed. Check the website of your computers manufacturer and download the sound card drivers then re-install.

No sound - no sound icon on task bar

Hi,

If you dont have a sound icon on the task bar, please go to the Control Panel via the START icon of the computer, and you can see the sound settings from there, and check first if the mute is not on.

If you are still having issues with your computer, please let me know the make and model no. of your computer as it could be a issue with the drivers as well.

Once you provide the make and model no. I will provide you the driver details as well.

I can't get my sound to work

The first thing to check are the speaker plugs. Depending on the options of your tower there could be up to six different plugs on the back of the tower. Usually the green colored plug is for audio out. Also check all the connections on the speakers for anything not plugged in correctly.

Next right click the speaker icon in the task bar. The task bar is located in the lower right hand corner of the display. A small window will open giving you 2 choices. Left click "Adjust Audio Properties". If you cannot locate it in the task bar then left click the "Start" button, left click "Control Panel" then double left click the "Sound and Audio Devices" icon. Make sure the "Mute" check box is not checked.

If you still have no sound then click on the "Hardware" tab on the "Sound and Audio Devices" window and left click the "Properties" button. This will open another window.

In this window under "General" tab check to see if it says "This Device Is Working Correctly". If not click the "Driver tab on this window. You will be given a choice to "Update The Driver" . Clicking this button will check for any updates to the sound driver.

If you still are without sound your problem may be a bad speaker wire or cable.
I hope this helps.

Sound icon in lower task gar has a red x through

You need to reinstall the audio driver. You can download any/all the Windows XP or Vista device drivers for your model laptop from the Toshiba WEB site from their download page. Make sure you enter the model of your laptop so you can get the correct drivers. Use this link :-. http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/home.jsp#

I have an acer t671 tower. it recognises a speaker but the sound does not come out

your sound drivers may not be correct.
Do you have a volume icon in your task bar.
If not then go to control panel then sounds and audio device.See in there if you have the option to show icon in task bar.If the colour is faded and you can't change the options then it probably is a sound driver problem So you will need to reinstall your driver
