Good day. I have SMC7904WBRA2 router working fine with desktop connected via ethernet cable. Have just acquired notebook and wish to configure the router for wireless operation that the notebook is "mobile". I downloaded the manual but there are just too many parameters and settings that I don't understand. What would be minimum settings in the router for it to be able to communicate with the notebook? Regards, Arthur.

If you have been using the router ok wired , and it is a wireless model, you should be able to see it with your notebook when you search for a wireless connection.
To set your security, log on to your router and set security to WPA2 if possible, you can then choose your password.
If you can only use WEP then it will give you a passkey.
When you click on connect in the windows zero configuration to connect to a wireless network, it will prompt you to put your password/key in.

My laptop works using my Belkin router, but my desktop will not connect to the internet

hello

your notebook has WiFi, which is radio frequency internet, it transmits and receives radio signals (frequencies) . Your desktop, most likely, does not support WiFi on its own , so you need to use RG45 cable , ethernet cable to be connected from your desktop to the router.
lan-cable-rg45-cat5e-cat6-utp-ftp-acr2101-.jpg

So in other words thsi is what happens with your notebook and the router.
  1. your notebook has built in wireless adapter which translates data into a radio signal and transmits it using an antenna.
  2. A wireless router receives the signal and decodes it. The router sends the information to the Internet using a physical, wired Ethernet connection, to your modem (supplied by your Internet Service Provider)
The process also works in reverse, with the router receiving information from the Internet, translating it into a radio signal and sending it to the computer's wireless adapter.

The radios used for WiFi communication are very similar to the radios used for walkie-talkies, cell phones and other devices.

you need to connect your desktop to the router via RG45 ethernet cable.

My router works when connected as wireless, but when I connect an ethernet cable to this, it does not work. This is required as I am trying to connect a network hard drive via the ethernet connection.

Hi. I suggest you double check first if the ethernet cable you're using is a known good cable if yes then that should be on your router configuration that enables you to use the ethernet cable, so I think you need to contact your Internet Service Provider regarding this matter because by default you should have the access using the ethernet cable, and they'll be the one to configure your router. Hope this helps

Wireless connection works fine from the d-link router but the desktop linked from the phoneline keeps going offline. Why?

You've omitted some information about your hardware & configuration & connections.

You should have:

1. cable-modem connected to cable socket (or DSL-modem connected to telephone wall-jack);
2. router connected via Ethernet cable to the cable-modem (or DSL-modem)
3. desktop computer connected via Ethernet cable to the desktop computer
4. wireless device (iPod or netbook or notebook) connected over the "ether" to the router -- this connection will stay "up" almost "forever" (as long as there is AC-power to the router and power to the wireless device).

Which parts & connections do you have?

Lost ip address so can't connect to wireless

If you are able to connect to the router via Ethernet cable, connect, go to the gateway ip address and you can retrive the IP address info from the routers configuration page.

Good Luck.

I'm not sure about setting up Linksys WRT54G2 Broadband Router in conjuction with desktop Sony Windows XP. I have a HP Pavillion dv6700 notebookWindows Vista) to configure the router so I can use it...

the cable should go to any of the pc's u wish to configure the router with, then all you have to do is configure the router via internet explorer, just type 192.168.1.1 in your adress bar and use admistrator for both password and username(these are the defaults) the pc that u wish to set the router up must be set to dhcp(this is done by going to network connection settings selecting properties then where it says internet protocol(tcp/ip)
select properties and select obtain an IP address automatically(this will make router give you an ip adress)

ENET Port issue on BEFW11S4 Wireless Router

Hi!

Try these steps:

1. Make sure the wireless is disabled when you're doing that. It might cause a confusion between the wired and wireless connection.
2. Try to plug it at other ports (1-4)
3. Try another known working ethernet or CAT-5 cable.
4. Set the laptop's LAN card's speed to 10-hald duplex.

Try these and hope it will help you ;-)

Actiontec GT704-WG wireless connection not working

Hi,
you say it suddenly stopped working, if you can connect to the router via ethernet cable then try to access the router's web utility page and make sure your router is in mixed or G-only. If you can't still connect to the router through wireless then try restarting the Wireless Zero Configuration from windows. This is how it's made: Go to control panel and double-click "administrative tools", then double-click "services". You will see a list, scroll down to Wireless Zero Configuration and click "stop", you'll see a progress bar. After that click "start", you'll see another progress bar. Now try connecting to your router via wireless connection. If you still can't connect then repair the connection by right-clicking the wireless icon at the bottom right corner. Keep repairing until you connect.
Hope this works!

Server not found} NetGear WGR614 Wireless Router doesn't connect me to the internet.

Dear Loud Nouises,

Your router must be connected properly to the cable modem. This must be to the wan port on the router.

Next, the router must be set-up accordingly to recognize the modem's internet connections. Please ask for the IP address.. and other relevant informations from your internet provider.

Set -up your computer using the internet connections wizard on each of your respective computer.

This should work fine if all connections were correctly configured.
