These units are known for this problem. You cook on stove and stream gets into keypad causing keypad not to respond anymore. The good news is keypad can be replaced, the bad news is it will happen again and the keypad costs around $125. GE will not admit to any problem, but I see this problem alot. You can get a new keypad at appliancepartspros.com

I work for a high end appliance co. & just wanted to add my 2 cents about your comment "GE will not admit to any problem". Any manufacturer is not going to admit to a fault but, not b/c they want to screw you or b/c they don't want to be honest or responsible for it BUT b/c people take things out of context next thing u know it's blown way out of proportion, people are stupid that way. it's like this, if u can think of a product to make & think of ALLLLL possibilities that can happen in the real world that can make it fail then u my friend have figured out this worlds 8th wonder & will be the richest person in the world. Congratulations. They don't mean for this to happen but WE AS CONSUMERS at the end of the day are responsible for **** we buy regardless if you want to admit it or not.

How do I remove the keypad on JVM1540?

Remove the air grill first. Should be a couple of screws. Then you will see one screw holding the keypad in on top. Take it out and it will tilt forward. Make sure you unplug any power source first before you try removing any screws. Once you have the keypad leaning forward there will be some connectors holding the keypad in. Unplug those and lift the keypad up and out.

If I understand you, the front keypad is not responding. In that case you will need to replace the keypad control board.

A GE service man advised that our two year old microwave model JVM1540 DN1WW requires a new key board that coat $222.23, Is this normal for a GE product? Charles Myers email: cmyers07@comcast.net phone:...

This is a common failure.

On this model, the membrane keypad is not available as a separate part, so you would have to order the control panel frame assembly which comes with a new keypad.

In this case, you simply move your circuit board into the new frame. That is a simple do-it-yourself job.

It is part number WB56X10824 and you can order it here for $115.94 They're our favorite supplier.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number from the tag on the oven here.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Then you unplug the keypad (as per the photo below) and move the circuit board into your frame. Be careful - the display is made of glass.

Some connectors on the relays may have a lock:

Touchpad doesn't work on ge model #jvm1540sn1ss

The membrane keypad has failed.

The keypad itself is not available as a separate part, so the control panel frame with keypad would have to be replaced.

This is actually a pretty simple DIY job.

You can part number WB56X10826 from the Pros here for $114.62 plus shipping (that compares to $166.50 from GE!).

You can also find helpful exploded view diagrams at that link.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Then disconnect your keypad strip as shown in the photo below, then remove the screws that hold your circuit board in the old frame.

Then carefully (since the display is made of glass) move your circuit board to the new frame, and reassembly is the reverse of disassembly.

No, but as with all electronic items faulty ones typically show themselves up during the first few months of use.

You've probably just been one of the unlucky ones.

GE JVM1540 keypad only works for some buttons

Membrane keypads are not very durable, and do fail after a relatively short time.

The only method is to replace them as a spare part.
