HP Pavillion dv6000 - dark screen, no power noise, but power lights are on

Our laptop was open/on and all the sudden, the fan sped up, then the screen went dark and there was no more noise. Power lights were still on, though. I forced it off. When I try turning it on, the power lights come on, but it doesn't make ANY noise (no fan, no power hum) and the screen stays dark.

Any ideas?

dv6000 was sleeping after being away for the day. It wouldn't respond to mouse or keyboard to wake it up, so it was forced off. Now it turns on all lights but there is no sign of a fan or hard disk. Sometimes after the LEDs are glowing for a minute or two is cycles off and back on. No beeps, no display at all.

DV6000 was in sleep after being away for the day, and it would not respond to keyboard or mouse. After being forced off, when it restarts it shows all LEDs, but doesn't show any sign of a fan or disks. Sometimes after showing the lights for a minute it will cycle off and back on. It does not beep or show anything on the display.

I have a hp 6000 that fell out of a freinds hands. The screen went dark . You can see o/s if you shine a light to it and open and work programs. I have replace a new screen and a back light inverter. However, the screen still remain very dark and o/s still works. Also if I hook up to external monitor it works fine. Just trying to get the screen to light back up .

1) Turn off your laptop. 2) Remove Power supply. 3) Remove the battery and put it back again after 1 min. 4) Put power back and restart.
This should solve the porblem ! I have had it several times.

The issue is usually caused by broken solder connections between some chips of the logic board and the PCB surface itself. There are two ways to fix this problem yourself. If you'd rather not do it yourself, you can have a third party laptop repair service do it for you but if you do prefer to do it yourself, you can reflow the GPU (repairs the solder connections) or replace the logic board alltogether. If you want to replace it, get the part and ebay and use a Laptop repair guide that teaches you how to install the part yourself. If you want to reflow, Google how to reflow a motherboard and you will find ways to re-heat the board to repair the solder connections, chances of success of DIY reflow are around 50%.

Sounds like laptop over heat. Keep it off and turn it back on after it has cool down. Another things to check is your memory. Sometimes memory not secure to it "teeth" will cause this problem (like in my Toshiba).

My hp pavillion dv6000 works but , no light up screen . any suggestions?

If there is an image on the screen, but it is incredibly dark and washed out, then your laptop's back light is out. This is an expensive repair that often exceeds $300. Solutions can be having it repaired, getting it replaced, or using an external monitor with the laptop.

Tip

Recover HP Pavillion DV2000 + DV6000 + DV9000

Some HP Pavillion DV series have the issue of not starting up( screen is Black), lights are on, then it restarts over and over again.

The solution is:

Disassemble(open up) the Laptop with right tools.
When you get to remove the fan on top of the processor, you will see the processor and next to the processor an intergrated graphics card.

Remove the processor.
Remove the Ram.

What you do now is Get a hair blow dryer, set it to maximum hot air and blow 1 cm distance from graphics card for about 5 minutes.

let it cool for 20 minutes.
Put back all components.

start the POWER. wait and now your pc will show something like magic on screen..

Newer HP Pavilion dv6000 turned off while in use and wont turn on

1.Start your computer and see if your hear your fan noise, and cannot see anything on screen then there is problem with your power supply.

2.If you cannot hear your fan noise, and do not see anything on screen, then there is problem with your motherboard

3.if you hear fan noise and can see something on screen, then it is the issue with your hard disk (very less cases)

Mostly it would be the 2nd case that you will have to get your motherboard replaced

I had same problem with HP DV6000. I ordered a new backlight on Ebay from Hong Kong cost $10 found a video on youtube on how to do it by typing in "replacing dv6000 backlight" apart from soldering a couple of wires was pretty straight forward and took less than an hour. Shop had quoted $400 to do this and fine is now working like new again. Good luck from Scott and please dont forget to vote

Hp laptop dv9500 noisy and loud fan ...

The sound you are hearing is probably the fan, This fan has a noisy bearing and will eventually lock up and the fan will stop spinning and therefore the CPU will overheat and shutdown.
The fan needs to be replaced.
