Two reasons can be tthe issue, the first one being that the mechanism is having a mechanical faultthat stalls the full movement.
The second can be that the flexible cord wire strip is damaged and the line cutts off when it opens to compete the opening.
In both cases the fault can be found out by opening and checking on the mechansim drive. if the motor is free to move manually till the screen opens out, then the fault is in the circuit.
check the continutiy of the strip wire, check the final loading switch point sensor.

My DVD tray on my Yamaha DV C6480 (it holds 5 DVDs) got stuck in the half open half closed position. It may have come off the track. I opened the case and reinstalled the DVD Tray. Now the tray...

This happens to us all the time. Here is the note I keep on how to fix it quickly:
When tray gets messed up, the drive wheel (with pegs that interlock with pegs on the tray) needs to be such that the tray slides in and out freely. Push tray all the way in. Turn on.

Hope that gives a hint.

Sorry. Unless you open it, you can see what is wrong. The opener might be broken, or there might be an obstruction

Starts up but turns onto standby straight away

There could be a problem with the flip down iris protector. If the Sanyo is on and you flip the protector down manually then the projector will go into standby mode. This is obviously to protect the system incase it ever gets flipped down accidently and the system is on. There could be a faulty switcher inside the protector mechanism which is not working properly and the machine thinks that the screen is down when in fact it is open!

Switch off the entire projector at the mains and open and close the screen a few time manually. If you feel comfortable doing so try and force the screen up a little bit past its stopping point when it is supposed to be fully open. Be careful and don't break it. Now keeping it open plug it back in a see if that works and don't touch the protector ever again! If it doesn't try opening and closing a few more times to try and release the triggering button that is inside the projector screen.

I had the same problem and that worked for me.

Screen shows the movie only if open half way

Bad wire braid from cicuit to screen halfway open makes contact and screen comes on. These portable unit made by off brand companies can be hard to find parts for. But it could also be where the braid connects on either ends is slightly out of place. If you are handy with electronic you could disassemble the unit and check. or replace the braid but there is voltage, and many delicate parts. But its not impossible.

DVD player froze, now only turns off

Sounds like the power supply in the dvd player has failed. It works just well enough to turn on the led infront but as soon as you go to do anything it shuts off. This is common in cheaper dvd players. Unless you can troubleshoot electronics. Or know someone that can. Your best bet is to unplug the unit and disassemly and retrieve your dvd.
