Hi I have a Fisher CD Player AD-925. When loadin a CD and then pressing play the CD motor don,t start the CD rotation and nothing starts. If I help the motor by manually rotating the CD disc it starts playing fine. Is the motor a AC-driven Capacitor assisted motor?? Can the capacitor be faulty?? If so how do I locate it for replacement. Can it be any other thing causing the motor not to start by itself. Thanks in advance for any assistance/help Kind Regards Bjorn Lengquist

SOURCE: Carousel does not rotate from one cd to the next

I just had the same problem with my parents dx-c206. I first found the motor drive unit with quite a bit of dismantlement, the drive circuitry is under the turntable as well for the drive motors. Once in the drive motor unit, the associated circuitry is clearly seperated on the circuit board between the drive and the actual cd spin motor and laser circuit, I checked all the voltages to common and all seemed fine, I then discharged the caps, and it then by itself started to spin again, it still has a few glitches, that it might freeze, could have been also a faulty cap. Real reason is unsure, this was a lucky fix... I did also remove what I presumed is a coil sensor unit that is also located under the turn table, once the small rectagular circuit board is removed u will find two U shaped (presumed magnetic sensors). I dought that any cleaning I did fixed this, but this could possibly have been infra red sensors, that would requirer some cleaning. These sensors are responsable for the turntable positioning.

SOURCE: hI i HAVE A WHIRLPOOL

Hello SPENNA,

There could be many reasons for this to happen. Here are a few that comes to mind:

  • It could be that you have a bad lid switch. Check the lid switch for continuity. A bad lid switch will interrupt the spin cycle. To eliminate a bad lid switch as the culprit, try the bypass test. HERE is a step-by-step guide with pics on how to do this. (Click the ‘NEXT’ button below the pic to proceed to the next pic/step). If the switch is ok, test for power at the wigwag (spin) solenoid when in spin cycle. For diagrammatic details of the insides of your machine, please click HERE.

  • You may have to replace the drive coupler (also known as a "motor coupler" and is located between motor and transmission). I think it costs about $15. It sits behind the motor, so you have to remove that and then put in the new part. Reattaching the motor can be pretty tough though..You can purchase this part from HERE, if that was the problem.
HERE is a superb article on all the steps you can take to rectify this problem. It is a bit lengthy to post here, so PLEASE follow the link. It will definitely help you resolve this issue.

P.S. - If you find that the solution/answer I provided led you to, or resulted in a fix, please close the ticket with a FixYa! rating. I would be very grateful for your show of appreciation.
If, however it has not, then please do not assign a rating just yet. Please post back as to what steps you took, results, etc, and I will try to assist you further as best as I can.

Thank you for using FIXYA!

Cheers!

SOURCE: home cd player will not open

Look underneath the unit for an access hole . It may be labeled as such.
Some CD units offer a manual drawer open device under there.

If you're really brave, unplug the unit and remove the case screws. Pop off the case and get your CD back. The you might need a draw belt. See prbline.com or studiosoundelectronics.com

Fisher and paykel smartdrive motor

136. (10001000) Phase 1 to 6 - Motor Stall
The Motor Controller has been unable to start the motor. Possible causes of this
fault are: Faulty motor harness, faulty or jammed motor, seized bearings or seals,
faulty Motor Controller module, faulty Rotor Position Sensor or harness.
Primary Source: Wiring.
Action:
Measure / check the motor harness, connectors and motor for discontinuity. This
can be done by taking a resistance measurement between phases of the motor
harness at the Motor Controller module end. Nominal resistance should be around
12.2 ohm for Phase 2,3 & Phase 4. For Phase 5 and 6 onwards the nominal
resistance should be around 32 ohms.
Secondary Source: Motor.
Action:
1) Check free rotation of the agitator and basket by rotating by hand. Bearings
and seals may be seized.
2) Check the Rotor Position Sensor and associated harness for water,
mechanical damage or corrosion.
Tertiary Source: Motor Controller module.
Action:
If the primary and secondary checks pass inspection then replace the Motor
Controller module.

Hi, i have a 1984 fisher studio standard cd player. when it plays, it sounds excellent and works fine. the machine will play cdr's as well as normal cds. however, some cds it simply will not spin. it...

Thanks for the informative write-up. So few know how to describe a problem (example: it's broke) or have the intuition to check a few things out.

A surviving 1984 CD player? Good for you. And they originally said the lasers would burn out in a few years.

Don't read too much into sound quality and tracking of defects for this problem. It sounds like a load status sensing problem. Does it make the thee clicks when you load no disk or one upside down (to simulate a bad disk)?

You're probably on the right track with the tilt. I suspect you need to locate the sensor that 'sees' the presence of the disk in the first place. Can you try your troubleshooting with the covers off and observe what may be different at the tilted angle?

I have come across one DVR-S120 that has a shorted spindle motor. This is the motor that spins the disk. Therefor the unit will not play a cd or dvd. Yamaha sale's the complete dvd Assy. for $300 witch is absurd.

The DVD player doesn't play DVD disc only CD discs

first thing to do is try a lens cleaner disk. If that does not help you can try to remove cover and maualy clean the laser pick up with a q-tip and isopal alcahol. If that is not something you want to try have it done by a friend that has experiance or a shop. If that does not fix it you will need a new laser assy.
