A 4GB card is a SDHD card, that your Wii will support it only if you have Wii Menu 4.0 installed. Otherwise it's limited at 2GB.
Get the Wii Menu 4.0 from here
After that format the card in your pc to FAT (no quick format) and don't add anything from the pc to it. Plug it in your Wii and move any file to it to finalize the format.
