Question about Ovens

1 Answer

I had a burnt out element in my Maytag oven and had to take back off oven and follow the wire that went into the element holes. I know how to fix the element and wires with that. I noticed that the insulation around the oven light socket has disintegrated and the back of the porcelain light socket is black. the metal prongs that go into the back socket are black but seem to be in tact. I was told by a parts dept. that I would not be able to get more insulation as it might be asbestos?? (yr of oven is 1997) Is it safe to clean off metal prongs and leave it as is or is it a fire hazard? Bulb has thick cover glass plate over it & I can't see that any grease can get past cover. thanks for your help.

Dont worry about insulation missing i have worked on ovens for many years and often bits are missing from earlier repairs and the oven will work fine.

Maytag Oven. The bake do not heat, the broil is ok. what is the problem ?

Look at the wiring diagram... The manual reset Thermal Limiter Switch (part number 74008715), located on the lower rear insulation retainer can keep both elements from working, not one at a time... I would inspect the back of the bake relay for a burnt/failing solder joint. Swapping the BAKE and BROIL leads is an acceptable test, but if you put the bake leads on the broil and still get no heat: check the control relay. If the broil leads will not heat the bake element, you have a bad element or bad connection. Be sure to do all testing of the elements with at least one wire detached so as not to red a back circuit.

How do I replace the bottom oven element on my Maytag CWE5800?

This shouldn't be too difficult. Make sure the power is off. Remove the screws that hold the oven element in place. carefully pull the element out from the back wall without losing the wires back in the holes. Install the wire on the new element push it back in the wall. Reinstall the screws and you are set. Turn the power back on and check to make sure the oven cycles when it reaches the set temperature.

Replacing element

Please Turn your breaker off before attempting replacing your element.
I wrap electric tape around the wires and stick the tape to the oven wall to hold the wires in place. Becareful if they slip in the hole you have to remove the oven from the wall to retreive them.

Oven will not heat. all the burners on top work fine. what could be wrong?

Usual faults in this order are:
Faulty oven element - check element for holes, blow marks etc;
Burnt off wiring at the oven element terminals - check terminals;
If the oven indicator lights when the oven is turned on it should be the above. If it does not refer below;
Electronic clock set to auto. mode instead of manual mode.

Electric Maytag Oven will not heat over 200 F

Check the bake element.(bottom Element).
It is likely burnt out.
Sounds like your only getting some pre-heat from the top(broil element).

I turned the bottom oven on and it was like a small lighting bolt went off, it tripped the fuse box to the house and now only the top oven works?

You will probably find that the element for the lower oven has expired. They sometimes do go in a shower of sparks. I once had an element on a hob explode in my face and a small lump of red hot metal flew up and just missed me.
It is easy to get to the circulatin fan and element, you just have to remove the 4 self tapping screws in each corner of the fan/element cover for the cover to come off. If the element has burnt out as you say you should see some evidence of burn marks/holes on the element.
The bad news is that you will have to take the whole oven out of the housing to remove its top and back to gain access to the element retaining nuts and the wiring to unclip/reclip it.
Try espares for a replacement element and if it was a major bang when it went, you should consider replacing the thermostat as well as this is often damaged by the element going.
(The thermostat is the long thin metal rod in the top right hand corner of the oven and is connected to the control by a very thin fragile pice of wire - be careful)!

How do I change the oven element on a belling format 800 oven

1, If your Belling fan motor in the back of the oven is going round and the temperature light is on (normally little red light), but there is no heat then you will probably need a new oven element, these are generally very easy to fit and readily available from our website these can be tested with a electric meter.To gain access to the BELLING element you will have to remove the back plate from inside the oven. Once removed you will see the fan and element, if you look closely at the element you will probably see a small hole burnt in it where it has blown. Sometimes however there is no evidence of a fault but the element is open circuit ie: broken inside the element casing, either way it will need replacing. Some elements will are fixed from inside the oven and some are held in place by nuts from the rear of the machine.

The bottom (fan oven) of my Neff U1721 made soft bang noise and failed. The fan stopped, the oven light went out and the thermostat light. I replaced the burnt out heating with a new element with a 32.5...

The power to the fan and thermostat is the fault. You will need to trace wiring from these elements to power source and I suspect that where the power cord meets the oven is where you'll find the cause.

How do i change the element on a whirlpool akz452?

Turn the power OFF to the oven. Remove the oven racks. Unscrew the element where it enters the back wall of the oven from inside the oven. Carefully pull the element leads out of their respective holes. Carefully because the wires will be short.
Remove the wires from the element terminals. Place the wires on the replacement element. Reinsert the terminals into the holes and replace the mounting screws. Turn the power back on and bake me a dozen cookies.
