Question about RCA L42WD22 42 in. LCD Television

Rca digital board?

My rca L42WD22 went from working great to "unusable signal". I thought it may be the dish so they came out and said it was the tv. It wouldn't pick up any channels or let me use dvd player. Took it to a repair shop and the guy said that it would be over $900- to fix it because I have to replace the digital board. But he said that maybe I should try to find the part online cheaper. Does anyone know the part number? The sites that I find require a part number and I have no idea what that is. Wal-mart won't let me take the tv back because I bought it from them refurbished even though I've only had it 5 months. If anyone can help me in any way I'd greatly appreciate it. I don't know what else to do.

I have had the same problem, however my lcd did not start doing this til ten months after purchase. I am going today to see if it is the same issue that all of you had...This t.v is highly recommeded if you want a t.v that does not work before it's one year date of purchase.

I have the same problem along with no sound. My TV was only seven months old and still under warranty. It has been in shop since June 26, 2008. It is now Sept.10, 2008. Thomas (RCA) keep giving excuse that part is ordered, but no tracking number issued for shipping. I have resorted to calling them every day. I am really fed up. This set costed over $1000 and didn't last 7 months (not to mention I am paying DirecTV for HDTV service with no HDTV). I am ready to take legal action!!!!

I have the same problem...unusable signal.

I have the back of the tv open and also the metal cover over the main junction/connection box.

Some refer to the digital board no longer available and that a solution to the problem is to change a fuse and...

but where is this board when looking at back of the tv...what does it look like? I've done a bit of electronics a few years ago (17 that is) and I guess or I hope to be able to fix it myself with a little of your help.

    Thanks.

OMG so glad I found this site, had my 42 LCD for almost 11 months and yesterday it stopped working just keeps saying unusable signal. Bad thing is I can't find my receipt and it should still be under warranty. Wal mart does not want to help at all man I am so frustrated.

I have the same issue, unusable signal bullcrap. I thought it might be Dish network, but not the case, I pulled my gaming TV from my computer room and hooked the coax to it, and wallah, I had Dish, then ran, the setup over and over on the LCD 42, to no avail. Dish network rep did come out and tried several alternatives to no avail. I guess now I am stuck with a thousand dollar piece of ****. Yeah, RCA will get a nice letter, don't know if it will do any good .. but I will bug the heck out of them till I get some results. The $2 fuse option further down the page sounds interesting?

  • bizziar1 Feb 21, 2009

I had the same issue, bad sound no analog. I purchased 10 of the fuses listed in the fixes, paid a tv repair man 100 dollars to put it in. My total bill for the repair was 142 with parts, shipping, bench time and labor. If you need help you can e-mail me at bizziar1@juno.com.

The problem is a blown fuse on the top side of the board. It is about 2 inches from the tuner. There is a label 7c32 on the board. The part is a 1206 surface mount fuse with a F on it. The F indicates it is .5 amp. The reason they are all failing is because they undersized the fuse. Replace it with a

This fuse is a little bigger. You can check the data sheet at digikey to get a picture when you are looking for it.

no analog bad sound, l42wd22. DO NOT LET PEOPLE SCREW YOU!! You have a .81 cent problem. Then you need an honest tv repair person to help you. The total fix for me was $124. This is because I purchased 10 of the fuses versus one. I paid .41 cents per fuse $35 bench time at the repair and the rest was his labor for installing the fuse.

I am fighting with my extended warranty company right now. National Extended Warranty Corporation. Since Nov. 2 2008 when it started with the Unusuable Signal it has sat in our spare room covered with a comforter. One repair shop they sent me to said he would not look at my TV without me giving him my original receipt. NOPE!!!! He kept telling me that he had nothing from the warranty company.

So I called the BBB and he had a "rap" sheet 5 miles long. So now we are "searching" for another company. Going on four weeks and NO resolve.

Today I told a Supervisor I wanted a new TV, they could fix this one and sell it on Ebay. She then said Mrs. XXX are you refusing service? Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, so now we wait another 3 to 4 business days for them to locate another repair shop.

What a scam. My TV is 13 months old. RCA checked out even though this seems to be a common problem.

I am disgusted. I will be filing charges or a complaint with the Washington State Attorney General's office.

If the TV will play a HD input then the digital board can usually be repaired by replacing the fuse on the board. It's not a normal fuse and there is a updated part available so it won't go again. Any RCA authorized service center should be seeing many of these and should be able to take care of it.

This really works!!!! I just fixed my tv!!! I ordered the part online!! Cost 3.45. THE part number is RCA part# 25819. it's a 750ma 63v fuse. No need to remove the old one just solder on top of the existing one. Remove the rear and bottom screw holding the tv plastics together. Then open up the digital board cover (silver cover in middle bottom of tv.(all connections going to it) In the upper left hand corner near the large flat ribbon connector ie40 t hey will a surface mount cap. I think its 100ufd at 16v. Just to the right of it is a small surface mounted fuse, has an F stamped don it. Thisi s the fuse that opens up.

Mine is in the shop right now for the same problem (my fuse is still good, though). After a couple of weeks, Thomas (RCA) decided to send me a new replacement. Because, the digital board is on "indefinate" back order. Meaning not available. If you have your receipt and it has been less than a year, they should be able to help.
The part number, if you still want it, is 274656. At least that is what I was told.

You will not be able to find that digital board! there are none available. but if the tech you talked to is rca authorized, there is a new fix for it very cheap. Its a 2 dollar fuse. Also i am willing to bet that if you hook it up through component or hdmi hook ups you will resume normal play. May not have sound though.

Unusable signal shows up on screen.Cannot get a cable signal.

Hi friend I would recommend that you plug your TV into a cable signal that is currently working on a different site and see what the TV response is if the TV has the same response the RF modulator on the port panel could be faulty if TV works fine then I suspect your cable signal strength and quality at your home is either non existent or extremely poor and will have to repaired. Good luck hope its not your TV.

I have an rca L42WD22YX5 that just went to a blank screen yesterday. The screen keeps reading unusable signal. It is only 14 months old.

i had this happen last year, now my tv is messed up again. when we had the problem with the unusable signal, the tv repair shop told us it was the main motherboard that caused it. ended up paying $250.00 to have it fixed. Now, our tv is broke again, this morning turned it on, got the green light, then just started flashing red, hasnt worked any at all today, reset it and everything. My suggestion, if you can afford to buy a new tv, do it, because I called the repair shop again this morning about the new problem, they said after the 1 year warrentt from rca runs out all they do is tear up. My tv isnt even 4 years old, bought it at the end of 2007, now its tore up twice, going to purchase a samsung in the morning from brandsmart. Good Luck!

"Unusable Signal"

Ok. PCB means Printed Circuit Board.
It looks similar to the picture down below. A part must have gone bad on your PC board. So, the RCA shop ordered a replacement PC board to fix the problem. It's an interchangeable part. All newer TV now have PC boards, which each one hold a different function.ebc3c7f.jpg

No sound and a digital picture. i will assume you have no signal on analog rf cable. Thomson(RCA) have been having problem with these sets. The trouble stems from the digital cuircit board. We see alot of these. You used to get the digital board.. they are not availble.. so rca found the component on these that fail.. A VERY SMALL surface mounted fuse. With a lighted magnifer and some fine tip twezzers. we replace these fuses on these boards. Do you have any soldering experence..
