Hitachi Television Yellowing on the screen

I have a square section in the middle of my TV that is yellowing. What is the cause?

Our Hitachi rear projection tv has had a yellow area in the center of the screen that I noticed about 3 months ago. It has since gotten larger, almost covering the whole screen. You can see true color at the edges of the tv but the rest has a deep yellow tone. I thought maybe something was going on with the bulb (discoloring on the glass, too hot, who knows) so I took it out, but it's the same color as when I installed it just over a year ago. I see there are quite a few of these (same problem) listed on the net, not just for Hitachi. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Imagine, a $300 tv from the 70's still runs but a $2000 tv from the 21st century s hooped at 3 years...that's progress : P

We have a Hitachi 42V710 Rear projection HDTV. It started having a similar problem with the Yellow spot in the center of the screen. The bulb has been replaced, but the problem seems to have gotten worse, covering a good 60-70% of the screen. From what I'm seeing with others and the cost associated with fixing the problem, it may be more cost effective to get a replacement TV. We have had the TV for only 30 months, and have changed the lamp twice. Of course the warrantee has expired.

Suggest you call Hitachi and complain. There is an issue with all projection LCD tvs (not just Hitachi) was that the light engine assembly did not have enough vents for cooling. This translates in a green or yellow blob that starts small and grows larger because the LCD screen frame starts to deform with the heat. Guess they did not test with young kids in the house and the tv on more than it is off :-). In March I managed to get Hitachi to pay for the part and I paid for the labor to get this fixed (out of warranty). The new light engine supposedly is better at cooling though I do see a faint 1/4 inch band of green at the bottom of the screen. Blackburn Electronics in Anderson IN has fixed many of these in the Indianapolis area.

Yellowing on Hitachi 65T500 screen

Go to main menu, turn color all the way off to see if you have perfect black and white. If you still have yellow, it's in the focus block or convergence circuit, If it's perfect black and white then it's going to be in yc chroma luminence circuit.

The convergence circuit of the TV is causing this. You will need to have your convergence output ICs replaced. Expect to spend $350-450 to have this issue fixed.

Yellow and blue on screen

I am slightly confused about the model of the television, because a 46F500 is a rear projection set that doesn't have a lamp. It has 3 picture tubes and I have a few of them in my shop right now that have the problem you reported. What we do to this set when it develops a convergence issue is to check each resistor around the convergence chips for discoloration, and replace any of them that have changed in value, along with the STK392-150 ic's. If you don't have an ohm meter and solder/desolder equiptment, you can usually get a shop to do this repair for 150.00 to 350.00. Parts will be 50.00 and labor , the rest, depending on the quality of repair shop that you use. Good luck, Russmann.

I would first check and see if any software updates are out on this set, you can call Hitachi, if not that then it could be the engine assemble having problems.

You have a problem with the optical engine- The only repair would be to change the engine for about $500-$1,000 plus labor. This is a major repair (sometimes caused by dust particles getting on the LCD panels inside the engine, but disassembling the engine to try and clean it is not a reasonable option)
