Question about Canon PIXMA MP190 All-In-One InkJet Printer

2 Answers

I have reloaded original cartridges with ink, and found excellent results for several days. I only print a few pages in so many days. Recently got E5 error on MP190 'cartridge not recognized' and can no longer print. I believe from this site that the error can be reset, but trying hold reset, hold power, release reset and click reset twice, along with pulling cartridges has either set the printer as unrecognizable by the computer, or when re-powered, the error comes up again. Is there any way to totally reset this error and not waste a printer? Maybe buying new cartridges is an answer, but it seems there must be a bypass. Where are the great hackers? Is ther a download reset program......?? Thanks, JJ

Thank you for your reply and the knowledegable info; I am much more educated on the problem now. I am still wondering how remanufacturers disable the chip to resell. Why can I not do this? It must be information that is available out there somewhere. Thanks,, JJ

By the way, a CISS system is more costly, complicated, and much more printing than I would ever do. But I now know about it! JJ

Are there any other ideas out there about disabling the chip or removing it?

Please remove off the printer from the PC. Now uninstall the printers software from your PC and then reinstall the original software that came along with the printer.
Connect the printer to the PC .The printer will be detected by the PC and tthe new harware will be installed.
Now you can check on the properties for the ink levels. Do a head cleaning and take a test print.
If there is any error try a reset and repeat the process once again.
If not there seems to be a conflict in the printer hardware.
Hope this helps.

For canon printers the refilled cartridges dont work ..you have to get either ..cartridges with no chip inside..and those will work refilled..or more advantageous is to get something like that ..
http://www.inksystem.com/all-in-one-ciss/canon/All-in-one-Canon-PIXMA-MP190-with-CISSe.html
here is one already connected ..with a CISS but if you make a search with CISS for canon you will get many results ..and places where the conversion to be done..
This is an external ink holder..that allows you to have large amount of ink in them ..and refill them whenever you need.without any issue....
The issue with the cartridges that you have is that they have a counter chip inside and they are made for 2 sizes of cartridges..and if you had the smaller ones..they worked to be refilled and last untill the chip inside registered the count like for a large one ...(about 150% larger ..)and after that you can not do anything but buy another new ones ...originals..or ..convert it to CISS like I linked you ...
Indeed for some printers ..like HP ...and in older versions ..this cartridges can be refilled endlessly but for the newish models even they insert this chips...t protect the printers against the low quality ink ..and to assure the selling for their products ..

like I said ..or maybe I forgot..there are available on the eBay and all over the internet ..cartridges that are not the original ones but remade..and they came with no counting chip ...and can be refilled..cause the chip is not present to signal the number of copies...

Canon i9100: colors printing incorrectly

I've had the Canon i9100 since 2003 and have excellent photo printing results. In 2009 it started playing up and I'd gt some banding. More recently, black didn't want to print. It was as though the black ink in the print head got dry some days.

April 2010 - The colours started printing strange and I bought a brand new print head and installed it. Only takes a minute. Still had an issue with photo printing. Black and white was excellent but colours weren't true.

Found advice online to try cleaning the print head to print head carrier electrical contacts by rubbing them with a rubber eraser.

I did that and now I'm getting perfect colour photo prints again.

I had been thinking about buying a new A3+ printer but this is old printer is now working as good as new.

After replacing ink cartridge printer dose not reconize one of six

Using refilled in cartridges and incompatible inks result in the following problems.
  • Refilled ink cartridges might leak and cause product damage. One method for refilling ink cartridges is to drill a hole through the cartridge, refill the ink, and then plug it. In some cases this plug does not hold, and the ink runs into the product and damages the printed circuit boards.
  • Refilled ink cartridges frequently exhibit spotty printing or fail to print. This problem might be a direct result of the nozzles being plugged with dried ink. Because the vents of the refilled cartridges have been opened, air is able to enter the cartridge and dry the ink.
  • Refilled ink cartridges might exhibit lower print quality, for the following reasons.
    • Printing algorithms used to create the various colors are based on particular printer inks. Using incompatible inks might result in color matching problems.
    • Refilled cartridges might have damaged nozzle orifices, result in various problems with print quality.
    • company products to which the printer belongs to can use a time delay between pages to accommodate the properties of the specific media type and ink being used. This prevents smearing problems from one page to the next. Using incompatible ink will alter the effects of this time delay and might result in poor print quality.
  • printer might not recognize refilled ink cartridges. The refilling process may involve altering the ink cartridge enough that the product is unable to recognize it. The condition of the print cartridge electrical contacts deteriorates with use. This also results in the product being unable to recognize the refilled cartridge.
  • Refilled ink cartridges might get stuck in the product. Because the cartridges from other manufacturers have been altered, cartridges might become stuck in the product. This problem might require that the product be disassembled to remove the cartridge.
  • printer at times cannot predict the long-term effects on product reliability from using different ink formulations.

Printing with generic cartridges

Lexmark International does not recommend the use of third party inks or inkjet cartridge refill kits. Genuine Lexmark inks and cartridges are perfectly matched to the printing system. Using genuine Lexmark ink and cartridges ensures that every document produced is of the highest possible print quality, providing long-term dependable service from your Lexmark printer.

Lexmark cannot assure the excellent print quality and reliability of its inkjet cartridges after a cartridge has been refilled. Using incompatible inks in an attempt to extend the life of a genuine Lexmark cartridge beyond its recommended usage can cause failures in several different areas of the printer. Inkjet cartridges and printer failures caused by refilling or a third party ink are not covered by your Lexmark printer Warranty, Extended Warranty or Service Agreement.

Please use genuine Lexmark cartridges for best results.

Streaky printing

Hi,
At most cases of printer, especially which have done refill at cartridge, print quality is poor or streaky. Many factors influencing this printed result. To overcome print quality is poor, maybe following tips can usefull to prevent printed pages are missing lines or streaky.

First step is ordinary to be done many people when print quality is streaky that is doing cleaning. To get good printed result, sometime this facility is used more than once.
Use Ink Refill with Quality Nicely
For printer have refilled, sometime the quality of printing is also influenced by ink. If will fill your printer again, use ink which the was quality of nicely. I have tested some refill inks at cartridge which have been ascertained still nicely ( sorry: I do not want to publicize result of this attempt). In the reality result make me surprise, there ink of refill making the printed quality is crummy. To choose ink refill read following tips :
  • See viscosity of ink, every merk of ink refill have difference of viscosity. Don’t use Ink refill too jell. Difference of this viscosity is no measure reference viscosity of ink from factory maker of printer
  • Don’t fear to try some inking merks. Done this, you’d find refill ink fitt with your printer. I now only using one merk of refill ink ?.
  • This suggestion of forum, but I still not yet proved. May believe or not. Good ink aroma of soft usually.
Change Original Cartridge
This is last choice. A lot not like to do this ways, because price of original cartridge still costly. Alternative, you can use compatible cartridge which the was price of cheaper than original cartridge. At newest printer, usually there are two until four cartridge in one printer. And price four same cartridge almost at the price of printer even there are some costlier.

Let me know !

Thanks

Black and white not printing correctly, color is fine

If you are not using Epson ink, your printer will do this. Epson printers hate knock-off ink. Always use Epson ink if you want to keep your printer working properly. To solve the problem you are having, try cleaning the ink tubes. Make sure you re-install them properly. Hope this helps. Charlene

Ink has run out message

Ink not made for your printer has risks. 20 years as Canon rep taught me this. Yields: are affected by resolution, type of paper, condition of print head, condition of ink jets, all ink jets and lasers are mfg'd under lisence to Canon. You have the best! Anytime supplies are cheaper, something is left out. used cartridges usualy leak air and drip ink ck for stains under print head. cartridge has used blotter also drips. Cheaper cartridges contain less ink, no free lunch. Fill it yourself 1 or 2 times and do it right. Put the printer in your shower for twenty minutes if you see excess leaked ink. Allow to air dry for a few days then install new cartridges. Run all the Nozzle checks and print head utilities. Touch nothing else on the inside. This will fix it or f@#%k it up for good

First Page Problem

Since you have changed a cartridge, you need to do some maintanance. First, try an allignment. It should be in your printer's included software. Try printing the page agian. If it doesn't work, then try cleaning the head. Again, this can be found in the included software. There should be a few levels. A test page is printed each time. You might want to try more than the first level, but each level onward uses more ink. Lastly, you might want to get some help from the manufacturer. If you got it refilled, then you should check with them.

Hope this helps.
