DVD-r noplay message

Lately I have burned a movie on a dvd+r! Damned it didn't work on this player. Stupid ofcourse the player doesn't support this disk format.
So I burned it on a DVD-R but still it wont play, just giving message noplay. What is the problem the brand off DVD-r or program used to burn the DVD.
PLEASE HELP!
