When you are in shooting mode, Pull up the menu by pressing inward on the Menu/volume wheel, go to System Menu, go to Date/Time Disp, go to OFF, and press inward on the wheel again. EXIT.

You must shoot with the display and date/time off, otherwise it will be permenantly recorded on the tape.

Using movie maker to upload from JVC GR-axm17u (older camcorder) Got it hooked up to pinnacle usb device. I see the movie clip on my PC but the quality is terrible. Looks great on my camera as it is...

The USB device may be converting the footage to a very compressed codec.
Computer playback is not intended for interlaced footage as the camera produces so this may impact on the viewing.
Converting Compact VHS is best done with an Analogue to Digital Converter over a firewire connection rather than a USB device if you wish to edit in Movie Maker.

View playback on pc

You need to get some AV cables and some sort of MPG4 Video/TV capture card USB, or PCI, whatever, also software to display captured images,now you connect up the camera to the input on the capture card, press play on VCR and Record on PC, and stream the video to the PC and save it wherever you want. Then you can manipulate after saving anyhow you wish. This software hardware combination will also allow you to watch,a Movie streamed in, and output to TV as well.at same time...with the right Video out card, any dual head monitor card will do,

Changing from SP to EP

Camcorders have a software setting in their menu for picking the modes. Refer to your manual, or look around the menu on the cam.

Change VCR settings from SP to LP or EP

Hi;
I have a Panasonic VCR with a different, but I know how to 'fix' your problem on my m/c. The remote for my m/c has a "REC MODE" button; operating that button changes from SP to EP etc. Check it with the "Program" button on your TV screen.

Download a video from my camcorder

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Offhand for an analog camcorder, two (2) possible ways:
  • firewire if available on both the camcorder and computer;
  • video capture using the composite yellow RCA connector or S-video (whichever is available on both). The computer must have a video capture capability as well as appropriate software to run it.
Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy Holidays.

Sony SLV-D350P DVD/Video cassette Player

I have the manual. Are you trying to record something live? if so:

1) Turn on both the DVD/VCR and your TV.
2) Switch the input selector on your TV so that the signal from the player appears on the TV screen (this is usually something like 'input 1' or 'line 1' and so forth)
3) On your remote, set TV/DVD-VIDEO to DVD-Video, then press SELECT VIDEO to control the VCR. These buttons are at the upper left hand corner of the remote controller.
4) To record from a cable box, turn it on.
5) make sure the tape is longer than the total recording time.
6) insert a tape into the VCR.
7) press CH +/- on the remote to select the channel or line input video source to record.
8) select the tape speed SP/EP (SP provides better quality, EP provides three times the recording time as SP)
9) Press the record button to start recording. The VCR display will display the message REC.

Digital camcorder to convert VHS tape to PC for DVD burn

You can't with what you've got I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but in order to play tapes in a vcr and run them through a digital camcorder for output to a computer, the camcorder must have s-video or av inputs. Your camera only has s-video or av outputs, used for sending from the camera to the vcr or tv. Also, some cameras have the inputs but don't support analog to digital pass-through (which is what you are describing). With these cameras you input from the vcr and record it to the tape in the camera, and then output it to the computer. Without the inputs, you can't do either one.

Can I connect my VHS-C or S-VHS-C camera to my computer?

Since VHSC camcorders feature only analog outputs: it is not possible to connect the camcorder directly to a PC (unless a computer video card is equipped with analog inputs). The only way to transfer images from the camcorder to a PC will be using an external device capable of analog/digital signal conversion. JVC has released a capture device model, GV-CB3U which has the capability of video capture of a single frame in either Bitmap or JPEG format. The GV-CB3 can be connected to any video source through a standard video or S-Video connector and download single image to a PC using serial port (RS232C communication port). The JLIP Video Capture software necessary to transfer images to the computer as well as connecting cables are supplied with this product. You can also use 3rd party hardware (Video Capturing device) to send information from your camera to a PC. Visit your local PC or Office store for more information on other video capturing devices.
