I start up the Dell computer and when I get to the log in screen, the monitor states "auto adjustment in progress" and then shuts down. Where should I go to fix this?

Boot the computer into safe mode by pressing F8 as the computer boots up. then in safe mode adjust the resolution and/or refresh rate. then reboot and tweak to your liking.

1. Push the menu button at the front side of your Dell monitor. The icon looks look like a miniature version of your monitor.
2. Push the menu button again. This will exit the monitor menu and launch the OSD (On-Screen Display) menu.
3. Use the down arrow button on your monitor to select "Factory Reset."
4. Push the menu button.
5. Use the down arrow button to select "All Settings." Press the menu button to save changes.
6. Push the menu button twice to exit from the menu. Your Dell monitor will go back to its factory settings default, and its auto-detect feature will be disabled.
its on a dell monitor right
apparently these monitors have always had this problem some have'nt some have
no-one knows why not even dell
here are one post on how to fix the problem
Hey, I found a recent posting by someone else with the same prob----their solution seems to work (so far!) Try this: click "turn off computer" but don't turn it off....your wallpaper turns the typical "gray" color in prep to shut down---on the monitor, hit the "plus" button to execute an "auto adjust"---do this about 3 times....... so far, it works!
Your monitor does not support the resolution of 1900x1080. The ideal resolution for your monitor is 1024x768. To change the refresh rate(hz setting). Open display properties\If you are using Windows XP click on settings ->Advanced-> Click on monitor and click on the refresh rate drop down list and choose 60Hz If you are using vista, Once the display properties window opens, click on the icon named "Display". Then click on Advanced settings-> Click monitor Tab(as shown in the images below)
mcdevito75 here, You can try, shut down your computer useing START SHUT OFF COMPUTER, when computer is shut down double check all connections at the computer and Monitor, also check wall socket. Now! restart your computer, check the controls on the monitor, if you have a button auto press it, this will automatically set your monitor. If all this fails, contact Dell, you may have a faukty monitor. Computer does not control monitor screen except for brightness and volume, problem most likely with the monitor itself.
Auto Adjust work on the basis of resolution to which Windows set. It occurs mostly if Video drivers are not installed. Please check and install video drivers and also try to change screen resolutions from display properties in control panel.....
The screen colour changing is apparently an auto test procedure on the monitor and was prompted by a fault with the monitor not automatically shutting down when the computer is shut down. The settings on the monitor have been adjusted to rectify this and the problem is now gone.
