I am wondering how i check if my laptop has a sound card? my friends ex built it and she doesnt think he placed a sound card in laptop at all. i have checked all troubleshooting on sound and devices and...

Almost all laptops have the sound card integrated into the motherboard.

If you have a headphone jack on the unit, you should have sound when you plug in some headphones or speakers.

If the sound is not working you will need to look in "Control Panel" and "Device Manager" in windows to be sure the system sees the sound hardware and if it is working correctly.

Also, please be sure the sound is not "muted" under Sounds and Audio Devices in "Control Panel"

My computer's sound doesn't auto switch from hdphn to spkrs.

Two possible causes one is the headphone jack and the other a driver issue.

The headphone jack has a metal leg that is pushed out of the way when you insert the plug. It then switches from speakers to the jack. That's how it is supposed to work. The third leg can get dirty or bent or loose and not switch correctly. If it is dirty you can sometimes clean it just by inserting it and pulling it out a "few" times. If it is mechanical ie loose then it needs to be replaced which means replacing the main motherboard. You can check for warranty but from experience it might just be one of those things to get used to instead of trying to get them to replace a main board.

If it is a driver all you can do is hope they update the drivers. You can check the drivers versions and release dates on the Toshiba website. Just go to www.toshiba.com then support then laptop and then find your model. Drivers and sort by your operating system. Unfortunately Toshiba seems to have a history of unresolved sound card driver issues.

Sound coming through Dynadock is all static with faint sounds?

I had the same problem. I went to the Toshiba sight and downliaded all the drivers for Windows 7. I loaded the new dirvers. The first time that I restarted the laptop I had the same result. I turned off the computer overnight. When I came into the office this morning and turned on the computer it resumed audio without the static that you would normally hear whether with system sounds or the media player. It absolutely has to do with the drivers since the headphone jack works (dynadock not in the loop). I would reccommmend not just restarting but turnung the Laptop off and restarting.

The headphones need to be plugged into the green jack on the computer, your microphone needs to be plugged into the pink(red) jack on the computer.

Toshiba A10 headphone jack problem

I think you are on the right track, if the headphone jack is worn and shorting out itll kill the speakers because it thinks headphones are plgged in, ebay would be a good start for parts, maybe even call toshiba and speak to their tech support.
