We have had to replace the heating coil that is behind the drum because it snapped. After replacing it, the dryer worked good for a week or 2. Husband took the dryer apart and the coil was broke again. Now (3rd times a charm). He replaced the coil again and now it wont heat. Can anyone help on this?

Hello,

A Heating coil breaking is very unusual, burn out yet, but actual breakage? That is due to excessive vibration (is there a ceramic support / insulator missing where break occurs?), an insulator that has become conductive (if the break occurs at a ceramic support) and is allowing the coil to partially short to chassis / ground. If your drum is off balance (for whatever reason) and causes a lot of vibration, it can cause the coil to resonate (vibrate) and cause a weak spot which ultimately fails.

First check to see that the exhaust venting line is clear (not full of lint) as well as the path in the dryer to the line. This is the most common cause of no heat.
Second set the knob to heat turn on dryer with the lights off and the door open but the "open door" switch so that it still rotates with the door open. Look at the back of the rotating drum for a orange/red glow behind the drum (the heater coils). If there is no glow the heater coils are probably broken.
As the dryers age, the amount of thermal cycles the heater elements go through until the point when the coil wire breaks. There usually two heater coils behind the rotating drum (one hotter than the other and when combined the hottest heat temperature setting. You will need to pop open the top where you see the belt that turns the drum. The belt is removed from the spring loaded tensioner pulley at the base of the dryer. Then you can lift the drum out to get to the heater coils. Since no heat, both should be broken and will require replacement.

No high heat in dryer

This type of dryer has 2 rows of elements. If one is out then you will not have high heat.

Basically to get into ge dryers your start by popping the top then removing the front. Then the drum comes out.

Dryer running but no heat , how do I check the pilot light. Thank you

it can be various items, first check the thermal fuse located at appx 2:00 behind the drum it has 2 wires on it,somewhat tight area to access.if its good as in has continuity, then check the ignitor at the burner assy, there is no pilot light,if its good, start it and listen for 3 clicks as this is the gas valve coils opening the gas valve,if only 2 are heard the gas valve coils are open,,they are inexpensive and easily replaced,or the high limit thermostat on the heat difuser near the back inside behind the drum or the flame serser on the burner tube side is bad, these 2 are a very rare occurance though

My kenmore 70 series dryer is working but no heat

The heating element in the dryer is got short and causing this problem. If the heating element checks out ok then its faulty timer motor causing the problem.this 2 parts are to be checked.First the heating element and next the timer control board motor. Locate the heating coil for the dryer along the back of the appliance behind the drum. The coil resembles a large, stretched spring.Check the back of the dryer to see if the heater coil is warming up while the dryer operates. Keep hands clear of the dryer at all times while inspecting the coil. If it does not begin to show obvious signs of warmth within one minute, the coil is likely burned out and must be replaced. You can also test it with meter. If there is no continuity the element is confirm faulty and needs replacement.--------- You can get required parts from www.repairclinic.com .--------- this should help.Thanks.Helpmech.

Dryer blowing cold air . No heat!

Check the "Bias thermostat" for continuity with a multimeter. IF it is bad, replace with this part.

Dryer not heating

ALWAYS UNPLUG YOUR DRYER BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO DO ANY WORK ON IT.
Check to make sure you are getting full 220 Volt power to the dryer, if you are then:
Sounds like your problem may be with the heating coil. Remove the back of the machine and try to
locate the air duct going from the blower to the drum. Normally inside the air duct you will find
the heating coil and the thermostats/thermistor. Once you have located the heating coil, remove
the two wires from it and check the coil with an ohm meter across the two terminals of the coil.
You should read continuity across the terminals, if not you will need to replace the coil as it
is faulty. If the heating coil is ok, then: You can check the thermostat/thermistor by removing
the two wires and taping them together with electrical tape. If the coil heats up then replace
the thermostat/thermistor. DO NOT LEAVE THE WIRES TAPED TOGETHER AFTER THE TEST. This could cause
a fire, as you have removed the safety of overheat from the machine. I will include these two web
sites for parts and further help:

Both also have chat assistance 24/7.
Good Luck, Hope this helps

Most likely you have a burnt element....A good handy man could replace the element fairly easily.. Cost of a new element about $50-$75

Maytag dryer not heating up thus not drying clothes

This is usually a simple heating coil malfunction. The coil may have breaks in it causing it not to work. It could also have something to do with 1 of several heating sensors that may be broken, telling the dryer's heating coil that the dryer is too hot, in effect turning off the heating coil. If your dryer has a round lint filter in the rear of the drum, it was 1 of 2 models of Dependable care dryers produced in the 1970's. If this is the case, i supose it would be up to you whether you want to try and get it repaired or not. If you have one of the more recent models,,, the lint filter is directly behind the door, at the front of the drum. and in this case it would probably be a good idea to get it looked at it as Maytag is a relatively dependable brand.
