Question about Canon HV10 HD Camcorder

1 Answer

I have a Canon DV10 - an HD 1080i to miniDV tape camcorder that at one point a couple years ago got "out of adjustment" such that tapes could not be played back. I sent it in for service to Canon and was told the heads were dirty though I had at that point used it very little. It seemed to work fine once back and could be used to playback tapes before and after the "out of adjustment" period. The problem is that I have 3 tapes with data on them which I would very much like to access (kids were at a very cute age) and I know the data is there. I know this since when playing back these tapes the unit shows blue screen only BUT when fast forward is pressed during playback it behaves as it would with any other tape - jittery, fast moving images without sound are seen. I assume this means the camera record speed was slightly off during that period. I have since upgraded to another camera (a Sony) and I'm willing to "experiment" with any recommended adjustments to see if I can rescue these movies. Any help appreciated!

SOURCE: pink or grey horizontal lines on video download or viewing

I have the same issue and have for over a year (haven't had the time to send it to Canon for a few weeks to analyze, but have cleaned it numerous times). But I can tell you that the problem is internittent and the recordings are fine. Eventually, don't know the remedy, but it will suddenly stop doing that and I can download fine, and watch on camera fine. When it does happen, I just keep recording. It never shows up permanently. I re-tyr downloading or viewing and about the 3rd or 3th time (let it sit for a few hours between) it is normal!

SOURCE: JVC GR-D33U won't play back some tapes

I still thinking alignment is matter on your CAM and one more thing in your CAM it have the rubber roller it call itself pinch roller if that worm out or defective it can damaged the tape and depend the thickness and branch of those tape it make different resul you can check yours tapes which one is no picture open the lid door and look carrefully any mark deteriorate on the tape
I sugges you to bring it to JVC to check the pinch roller and re-align the tape guide and back tension it delicated and need special instruments and software service it

How to transfer sony dcr-hc26 videos to pc using usb cable thanks

The Sony HDR-HC26 is a miniDV tape based camcorder. No surprises if you can't get USB streaming working.

ALL miniDV tape based camcorders transfer DV-format video by conneting the DV port of the HD camcorder to the Firewire port of your computer. USB won't work. The "DV" in miniDV = Digital Video. It is as digital as the digital video from flash memory or hard disc drive or DVD based camcorders - only better because it is not compressed as much as the others.

Memory cards are not the only way to store digital video - and while not as good as miniDV tape, memory cards are not as bad as DVD based consumer camcorders...

Firewire IEEE1394, DV and i.LINK are all the same thing.

If your computer does not have a firewire port, hopefully it has an available expansion slot (PCI for desktops; PCMCIA or ExpressCard for laptops), so you can add one.

I have a Canon ZR90A and started noticing horizontal gray lines displaying across the screen when it plays back. What is causing this?

The most common cause of horizontal lines during playback is dirty heads/tape path. If you have a head cleaner tape, try playing it for about 5 to 10 seconds and then try your tape again. Repeat as necessary. Try not to run the head cleaner for long periods of time because you may wear down your heads quicker (cleaning cassette is somewhat abrasive). If you do not own a head cleaning tape, I highly recommend purchasing one. Sony (in my opinion) makes the best miniDV head cleaning cassette. We use this brand in our repair shop and they last for years. I have posted a link to the particular tape I am speaking of. Your local camera/camcorder shop may have these for sale.

I bought a JVC GR-SXM250u Super VHS camcorder a couple days ago and the picture has horizontal lines flashing in and out so I can't see in the display both in pause mode and in record mode. He said he...

you may have a faulty camera there,,,or the vcr tape may be faulty and has spred some of the tape on the recording head try running a cleaning tape through the vcr first to clean the heads,,then use a new tape (not the old tape!) to try that out,, if its cleans the head up throw away the old tape so you never put it back in this vcr

I recorded a MiniDV with a HD camera the Canon HV30 to be specific. When trying to play it back on my Canon zr950 i get an error message. Will my tape only playback on an HD video camera? What do I do?

Canon ZR950 is an older Standard Definition camera that records in DV format, and does not recognize HDV format recorded by HV30.

HV30 can be switched to DV format, which should be playable on ZR950.

    1. Connect the camcorder to a TV and check if you can playsee the tape.
    2. Take that tape and check it using another miniDV camcorder.

this way you will know if the issue is within the camcorder or the tape.
If is within the camcorder .. take it to a service dealer and see how much is to fix it. Chances are that is not worth to be fix. A brand new ZR900 is just 200 USD ...
