This setting is set in windows, right click on your desktop, go to either graphic options or properties and look for a resolution slider, the more you increase the slider the higher you resolution, but smaller the graphics on the screen, if the slider wont go that far or does not have that resolution you will need to change your monitor driver. in the same window, click advanced, monitor settings, look under the driver tab. you may need to download a driver for you monitor and operating system, if its not listed.

What happen when you hook this monitor up to other PC that has the video setting 1280 X 1024 60 Hz? Just ant to narrow down the problem before opening up the monitor. You may have logic problem in the logic board. If it does the same with other PC, then open it up and inpsect the inside for such thing as failed caps on the logic board or on the main power supply board, I think more likely to be ROM chip on the logic board is scrambled.

How do I change the setting on my Syncmaster monitor if I can't see anything but the message box..."Not Optimum Mode recommended mode 1280x1024 60 hz?

You could try pressing the auto adjust button (simply says 'Auto'), and see if that changes anything...don't know if this will work, but it is a start.

Monitor stops working and box start floating around on screen with "Not Optimum Mode -- Recommended Mode 1280 X 1024 60 Hz." Replacement monitor works on computer.

check if your monitor has an auto-adjust button, this will help you autoadjusting the recommended resolution so that there are no problems, if not, you can try to rightclick on windows desktop and go to properties>configuration, set the resolution there

Samsung sync master 510 monitor display problem

It may be that the LCD monitor will not display all screen resolutions so you may need to change your resolution to match the desired resolution and refresh rate of the LCD. In your case the computer should be outputting:

1024x768 pixels
60 Hz

You can change these settings by right clicking on the desktop and clicking properties and they're under the settings tab. Change the screen resolution by moving the slider to the recommended setting (1024x768)

and

under the advanced button click the "monitor" tab - make sure the screen refresh rate is set to 60 hertz (60 hz)

Does it show a picture in safe mode? If it does you might want to install drivers specific to the Monitor if you can find them.
